Thanks for the reply, omronguru. My "inconsistent performance" of DVD X-copy, is realy "consistant". I lock up after every burn. So, I can turn my DW-U10A, into a DRU-500A? I'll read Gully's tip back on page 2 and see if I can figure it out. I'll see if i can get me a copy of Pinnacle Instant copy too. Thanks for the tips. I let you know if they work. PS can I Burn DVDs with Pinnacle as easy as DVD X ? soldsome
Hi, Yes its a one click solution, just yesterday copied Ali G Indahouse one click, sorry 2, cos I had to swop from source to destination disk as Im still savin for a dvd reader.....
xgasman, My version of Pinnacle (version 7) does not copy protected material... it's easy to get around though... simply decrypt your cd/dvd's first... thus disabling any copyright/RCE/macrovision etc. from there you can simply use Pinnacle to condense everything onto 4.7gb media... I still prefer to use dvd2one though as it's soooooo much quicker. Does anyone know that if I convert my U10a drive to the 500a (using the much discussed flash file) I will still be able to overburn ??? I did read somewhere that the latest firmware 2.0f will not allow overburn... where as my U10a (firmware 1.1d) will with no problems... as yet !
Bought a DW-U10A and safely converted it to a DRU-500A and upgraded the firmware using the info provided in this forum - thx to all of you. For UK readers, the place l bought mine from has a special offer on for the DW-U10A this weekend only (14/15 June)of £169 incl vat. That's seriously cheap! http://www.microdirect.co.uk/default2.asp
My Sony DW-U10A came yesterday. It seems to work with Nero 9.1.14 (enterprise edition) but fails to do DVDcopy. Do others have this problem? SHould I change teh version of Nero, or should I use other software altogether? Another thing - to upgrade the firmware, do I have to first flash it to 1.0d then flash to the lastest 2.0f? I a a little confused with it all. Dave
Nero tell me that DVD Audio is not supported but might be one day. Any ideas how to make the most of DVD for audio recording?
I actually have another question....when I got my drive (DW-U10A), I had to change the region as it was set on region1. I changed to 2, as I live in the UK, but I now only have three changes left. I have only changed it once...I thought you were originally allowed to change it five times? If I am correct, it seems my "new" DVD burner isn't new, but has been sent back to Dabs.com by someone who set it to region1. If that's the case, I will send it back myself and ask for my money back for being sold a second hand item. Please LMK about this ASAP, so I can get back to them by tomorrow, Monday Amother thing - as it is from the box, what max recording speeds should I be getting on 1.1d firmware. I managed to fix the DVD copy problem myself. I had the other DVDROM drive connnected to a PCI disk controller card. After I connected it to the secondary IDE channel, it worked fine. I now have the CDwriter and DVDROM connected to secondary, and my HDD and my DW-U10A connected to teh primary. I will use the disk controller card for extra HDDs.
Re; the 2nd hand or not. You are probably correct in thinking the drive had been powered up and set. However, as a supplier of hardware we endlessly run into the quesiton as to whether something should be tested prior to supply. Certainly test mileage up to 10 on a new car is expected. I suspect you will have difficulty rejecting a drive that appears new and is fully warranted. By the way is there as free firmware patch anywhere to make them region free?
Me again. This evening, I succesfully copied a DVD-5 DVD from the local video shop. I did it three times: using DVD decryptor making an iso file and then burning that to disk, secondly using smartripper to rip the DVD as files, then burning it to disk using Nero (latest version), then using DVDXCopy (which puts crap at the beginning). My next task is to use a DVD-9 DVD, which will be fun....which is better out of DVD2one or DVDXcopyXpress? i have the original DW-U10A 1.1d firmware. After reading these pages, I think it is too risky to upgrade to DRU-500A 2.0f. Using the original firmware, has anyone got 4x recording with DVD+R at all? My four speed Ricoh DVD+R only records at 2.4X. I am in the process of buying some datwrite (red) four speed (DVD-R). It will be interesting to see if they work. A question that has been puzzling me is that people talk about UDMA. I use win2K and I can't see any UDMA settings.....where do I find them? Dave
Can someone repost working links to to firmware cahnges to and from the DRU-500a and DW-U10a please, I want to try a few test between the two firmware types and the links seem to be dead now. Thanks!
Yes! I have used pinnacle studio 8 several times with no problems...........Just one note if having probs compiling for DVD copy try preparing initally using mpeg option. P.S: try http://type-ive.hp.infoseek.co.jp/files/DW-U10A_to_DRU-500A.zip for that update.
hey i dont know wat the fuss is all about i have sony dw-10a oem never flashed the firmware still the original 1.1d and i have burned dvds without a problem.i have used 7 different media discs like princo, ritek, datawrite, datasafe, unbranded media yet the drive burns 100% on all, ritek seems to be the winner in my case 4x speed.at the end of the day its down to the individal and there software they use to rip the originals and were they put them? xp pro
Thanks for that Ronan, if you have used Pinnacle Studio 8 v5.1.21 and firmware v1.1d then we are identical and it looks like my hardware configuration is the problem. If you are not configured exactly like that then I`m afraid your exoerience is not relevant, ( but of great interest ), and II`m back in square one. If that is the case which capture render and compile software were you using before burning?
Omnonguru, ( or whatever ), I thank you for the URL. I have seen one or two entries to this thread and others from people who say it is not necessary to update from Firmware 1.1d on the U10A. ( e.g.Ronan, recently ). As you see from my response to him I`m running Studio 8 in its latest version, v 5.1.21, so if that worked for you it must be my hardware config, but I`ve had countless suggestions from Pinnacle tech support, none of which have cracked the problem. Its the original s.o.b., this one.
hi yes i do have similar pinnacle?theres know problems trying to do certain things, heres my 1st statement 1 tryed to copy a movie through the pinnacle suite with pioneer 105 latest flash 1.33b with ritek 4x, it done the job,but on plaback it was stuttering and jerky.2.so i changed the dvd burner to a sony du-10a i.id original flash with ritek 4x bingo works 100% and plays on standalone player.power dvd 4 deluxe, hardware 128ddr radeon 7500le running:1028x10284 depth 32 bits 70hz lcd,os xp pro jetway polaris galaxy series 2x512 ddr kingston 3200 amd enhanced cpu h/s+fan ?i hope this helps ma friend?if it doesnt have u tryed a clean sweep of the hdd then reinstalling os and stuff?it could be a conflict or hardware problem u have.................
Thank you Ronan. It`s extremely helpful when someone is so specific. The mass of evidence is beginning to convince me also that a `conflict`of some sort or other is at the bottom of this problem. It`s a great pity there isn`t one universal hardware/software set of international standards one could consult before buying kit. Thank you again `ma friend`, ( I presume you are in the Southern US from that salutation ).
hi again no im in the uk,scotland near the city of glasgow, pinnacle have know this problem with the os xp i think they havent prepapered or written it to the full working order to comply with xp,but they want intertain u,like getting blood from a stone, but i had no other problems with the crappy ME?
