I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you are using the XP OS. Try uninstalling the drive in the Device Manager and reboot and let the system pick it back up. Instead of uninstalling the drive itself, uninstall the IDE channel it is on. Normally the secondary IDE is the one with optical drives. You need to update your Nero to the 6.6.0.18 version. That's not the latest Nero version, but the most stable they'v had recently. There should be a link posted for it somewhere around AD.
with my new LG GSA-4167B, I can't even read a dual layer DVD, Windows (XP professional) gets it as an empty CD. I will be grateful to everyone who can suggest any idea. PS: I've just reinstalled windows... TKS jester
