Ok, So what your saying is that shrink has its own burn engine?? If burn with nero is unticked that is.

I was under the assumption that DVDD used nero to./8[

I guess thats why im here to learn :-] I wonder why imgburn didnt work then?????

Shrink does not have a burn engine at all. If you untick burn w/ Nero then there is no burning using Shrink in File mode. The files are put on the HD for you to burn using whatever program you have.

I have a question that I'd like to expand on this thread if thats alright. I just built my new last night. And after doing some reading, kept seeing a bit about booktyping and bitsetting. Now, when i put a dvd+r dl in my burner, the drive goes for a dvd icon to a cd icon. and nero wont let me change the bitsetting. there is no bitsetting for my samsung 162c drive. is booktyping necessary, or is that just for compatibility? where as just try one without in my standalone players and see if they work?

    thanks for any info guys.

and if anyone has more info about my issue with bitsetting the drive is a samsung sh-w162c (t-10 firmware, using nvidia ide drivers)

    mrjkwik,
    Welcome to the forum

If you are doing a D/L disk you do not need Nero. Rip the disk as per the instructions I gave PCDAD ( see below) and set up DVDDecrypter and AnyDVD ( 21 day free trial - so you might as well try it. If you like it then you can buy it)

Instead of writing using DVDDecrypter I want you to use the newer burn engine by the same author IMGBurn : http://www.imgburn.com/

Instructions Rip w/ DVDDecrypter and AnyDVD- Burn w/ Imgburn:

1.In DVDDecrypter go to Tools> setings>General> untick Check for Structure protection

2.Now go to I/O and tick ELBYCDIO-Elaborate Bytes

    3.Enable AnyDVD

4.Now insert Movie( foxes head turns red) and go to Mode in DVDD>Iso read> click the decrypt button. It will create 2 files- image and a .mds file

5.After ripping turn AnyDVD off ( right click taskbar foxes head and click on exit)

    6.Open ImgBurn> Tools> Drive> Change Book Type ( Samsung is there)

    7. Now go to Mode> write> find the .mds file you created and click on it and the hit the write button

I have found DVDDecrypter or Imgburn find the layer break better than Shrink or Nero but if you are happy w/ your method then by all means use it

thanks. appreciate the help. i'll check out that imgburn.

    one more question.
what does that do. might be an odd question to ask vs the usual just "how to" questions, but its always nice to know why we do the "how to do", if that even makes sense.

    PCDAD,
What you have done is turn off DVDDecrypter decryption engine and now you are using AnyDVD to decrypt and DVDD to rip to HD

If you update to the imgburn burner you can do the same thing. I have.

Ok will do,I have another question=if i left DVDD defaults in place and use ANYDVD in the background. Does ANYDVD break the encryption on the dvd fist and then DVDD helps in the prcess?? Or is that a redundant question?? :-I

    @PCDAD

I have done it that way for a long time. I left DVDdecrypter's setting at default which was with the microsoft spti ticked. When I start anydvd it recognized the dvd and did it's thing. I never once had a problem with any DVD using this format.

I just changed recently to using imgburn to burn with so I decided that I would change the encryption decyfer to the elby cdio and tick that box. Seems to work both ways for me.

I just make sure that I let AnyDVD do its thing before I open anything else.
