I do have firewire out on capture card on PC - I will give it a go, but the intention of ADVC is to turn analogue signal into DV and DV into analogue. I will try output analogue from the PC into the ADVC and out from the ADVC via DV socket straight into Dv in/out of 5100. Must say though Im not running on anything half as pro as your both mentioning - but the signals Ive got through ADVC via svideo are amazing .... Im in London btw .... Rakuco 1 I will try the tape feeature on Pinnacle studio to try output - have to say I absolutely hate this programme though it's one of the most temperamental ive experienced!!
LOL smart DV werent particulary helpful technically no - but shipped extra fast - had to do alot of the legwork myself - although they were more helpful than pioneer themselves
Ralf - I'm sorry I just don't fully understand your post. BTW - the DSR 11 is in dv mode (dvCam doesn't make any difference either). cheers Chris
The term is 'box-shifters'................ that applies to people who move boxes with stuff inside that they have absolutely no idea about.
Aww pretty much tha same as the 'boxshifters' who were asking advise from me about the 5100 in the shop where I bought it Tsk ...
Right The clip I just captured with the first way of connection to the PC via ADVC100 - 2 minute AVI - using pinnacle studio 8 - I went to 'make a movie' - created 'tape' & the footage just played back direct from the PC VIA 6 pin firewire to the DV input of the 5100 no problem as if was a camcorder connection. So thats another way it's working - i know this doesnt help with your problem tho Chris ... So means Wont accept ingoing via firewire to PC but will accept outgoing from firewire PC to 5100 DV port
OK I think I'm going mad here. Are you saying that you have a dv input signal from your PC firewire card that the 5100 accepts?? Yes/No? If Yes - then it MAY be the answer to my problem. What I need to know is whether you have tried a firewire input to the Pioneer 5100 that DID NOT work - i.e. before you got the ADVC device. Someone help me out here - just when I thought we were all singing from the same sheet - it gets more konfuzing......... 1. What signal did your Pioneer NOT accept when you bought it? 2. Have you now got the Pioneer 5100 to recognise the dv signal and record from the ADVC? Chris
[bold]Are you saying that you have a dv input signal from your PC firewire card that the 5100 accepts?? Yes/No?[/bold] Yes .... I just connected the 5100 direct with a firewire cable (no ADVC100 inbetween) from its front DV port - direct to my PC's firewire port - played a video on my PC and the 5100 accepted it through it's DV in socket and played back on the TV (on the DV input) [bold]1. What signal did your Pioneer NOT accept when you bought it?[/bold] The signal I was enquiring originally about was when I bought the unit and I was trying to do direct DV out from 5100 into my PC firewire card - still no connection through this way - only able to connect to pc this way via svideo out (5100) to advc100/ advc100 DV to firewire card in PC. [bold]2. Have you now got the Pioneer 5100 to recognise the dv signal and record from the ADVC?[/bold] I have only used the direct pc firewire to 5100 DV & recorded onto the 5100 via Dv this way. Feel like throwing this 5100 across the room just now LOL.
Is anyone able to go directly from the 5100 firewire out to their firewire card in on the PC? Coz this is the only problem Im having - I know the 5100 DV outputs to another dvd recorder and camcorders - so possibly its the firewire card on my PC or the sotware im using to capture ?????
This is even worse than I thought! My Pioneer 5100 gives great dv out to my edit system via firewire. BUT it won't accept the same dv input FROM my edit system Yours is the EXACT opposite!!! What edit card/capture card are you using?? Mijacmad cheers Chris
I am using my soundcard audigy creative labs with firewire in & out to capture using Pinnacle studio 8 software - this card gives great picture out to the 5100 DV but a black screen & no sound going in. I did use another standard Firewire card which is installed also and also got nothing on that & another standard firewire card on my other PC didnt pick anything up. Funnily enough when I first tried getting a picture - on the 2 pc's I have networked it picked a really badly distorted picture up on the pc the firewire cable wasnt connected too weird!! What Firewire card do you use and software to get footage onto your pc via the dv out on 5100?
I think someone as pioneer is having a laugh - putting dv out and dv in only sockets in diffrent players lol. Sorry I looked at rexRT and thought it was a signal converter thing, I'll read again. Funny I just tried outputting to 5100 from standard firewire port and nothing & then plugged back into audigy and there's perfect picture!!
Hello You both, today in the evening I will have a look inside my PC´s and try to get knowledge about chipsets, manufacturer and driver of my firewire-cards. I will tell You most exact I can. Further I will definitely go to a shop and buy an Audigy. I have state-of-the-art soundgear (RME) inside my audio-PC, so I have a little knowlegde about Creative Soundcards in my memory. And this says, that firewire is implemented in these cards on a "alternative" way - by example, it is said it´s not to use for firewire networking... mijacmad, please would You be so kind to tell us the model type no. of Your Audigy - my elder sblive´s have specific CT-xxxx or CL-xxxx-numbers. THANXTHANXTHANXyoursRalf
Hi Ralf, The soundbalster card I am using only allows the signal out directly to the DVR5100 direct via firewire via Studio 8. All I know is its a [bold]Creative Labs: Soundblaster Audigy 2 6.1[/bold] how would I get any other info for you about it - was preinstalled in a new PC. [bold]http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=&product=149[/bold] [bold]http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2781284300&category=44981[/bold] Also do you get a direct DVout from DVR5100 to your PC firewire signal? - if so what firewire card/capture card are you using? Im thinking of just getting a Canopus DV Raptor (standard - not the new model) card, wonder if this will recieve the IN DV signal direct from the 5100 without any conversion from the ADVC100?
Hello mijacmad, thanks again. 6.1 will possibly help me to choose. I could get Audigy "ZS", "1394", "Player" from 40 to 80 Euro bucks with fw. So it would be very helpful to know this specific model type number situated on the soundcard itself - as they are situated on my soundblasters. If not available - I will try such card in every case. Today in the evening I look after my firewire gear. I report it to You. I will test the DV output situation of 5100 and tell result to You. Greetings Yours Ralf
Thanks Ralf much appreciated!! the soundblaster card is the exact one in the links that I posted also!!! Please check direct connection from your DVR5100 to your Firewire card into the the PC to capture Footage onto your hard-drive from the HDD or DVD in the 5100 as this is what I primarly want to use it for - it was just luck that I got footage into the 5100 via firewire, when infact I never use this feature .
Ralf and mijac - appreciate your posts but I started this thread to see if anyone can get a dv signal INTO the 5100 from a dv card or an edit card?? So back to plan A - Can anyone do this yet?? cheers Chris
LOL I thought we'd covered that? I got a picture/sound signal from my Audigy 2 6.1 soundblaster card (6 pin firewire) which has firewire, straight into the 5100 dv input (4 pin firewire).
High mic, the audigy 2 is marketed as 5.1, 6.1, 7.1, es, ls, zs, 1394, player, and all possible mixes (plus platinum...), and they look all the same on photos. mtnumber begins with SBxxxx ... I will give report to You i.b. dv-out. Me vice versa have not used this feature till now but decided to buy the 5100 because this might be a positive difference to the Pana recorders one day. One day You might tell me what quality comes out. I imagine one gets a signal in DV/AVI that was originally mpeg2, isn´t it a very big loss of quality?? Thanks Yours Ralf
