rotary, when you get a chance, take a look at this link. let me know if i should go ahead and do this for all the drivers it lists in this link or just for that cdral driver you were talking about. i have something called lower filters.bak under my registry, but not sure if i should delete that or not? http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q315345
in your case, this needs to be done! follow all that resolution! zap tool is having a hard time on its own, and the zap tool does whats in that guide on auto this should sort it...
hey Rotary, thanks again for your reply. im a little unclear though. should i or should i not delete the lower filters.bak file? and should i go ahead and delete ALL the other files or just the one you mentioned was giving me the problem with nero? i looked under the registry and there is no such thing in mine called cdwin2k, although there is one that says cdwinxp. but the link i provided for you, doesnt say to delete the winxp one. anywas, im confused as usual. clear some of these things up if you get a minute and thanks again for everything!
should i not delete the lower filters.bak file where is this on your pc? ---------------------------- 1. Remove or rename the following files in the C:\Winnt\System32\Drivers folder: Cdralw2k.sys 2. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe). 3. Locate and then remove the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k 5. Locate and then remove the following registry value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\LowerFilter 6. Locate and then remove the following registry value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\UpperFilter 7. Quit Registry Editor.
hey again Rotary. sorry it took some time to get back to you. the LowerFilters.bak file is located in my pc under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and as far as microsoft's instructions... i know how to follow them it's just that my registry has different info than their instructions has, so im confused as to what to do. im afraid i may delete something the registry actually needs, just to make nero work. so im sorry i keep asking you the same thing, i just want to be sure or clear as to what im doing. you mentioned to delete Cdralw2k but then microsoft mentions to delete a bunch of things, and you agreed i should. here is what i have. maybe you can take a look at it, and clear it up for me whenever you get a minute. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_2K UNDER THIS I HAVE Cdr4_xp instead HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k I DO HAVE THIS ON MY PC HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdudf I DO NOT HAVE THIS IN MY REGISTRY, I DO HOWEVER HAVE SOMETHING CALLED UDFS HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UdfReadr I DO NOT HAVE THIS EITHER. ALL I HAVE IS SOMETHING CALLED UDFS thanks again for all your help Rotary. i will check back and see if you were able to take a look at this.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_xp HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k these 2 are definately the ones, make a backup of the registry first! then any probs load the reg back in as it was the others i would leave for now - then test burn after deletion
thanks again Rotary for sticking with the topic and helping me out so much. i will delete those 2 then and do a test burn with Nero just to see what happens and report back. and how do you back up the registry? i can google it if anything, but i have never deleted anything in my registry before so i have no idea how to back it up. can you just back up those 2 files i would be deleting, and then just add them back if it didnt make a difference? and if so, do you know how would i go about doing that? thanks again.
when found if i remember rightly you right click use backup or in file menu tab at the top left... also right click delete line after...
hi Rotary, i deleted those 2 files from the registry and gave nero/nero vision yet another try. unfortunately, i get the exact same error message i was getting before 'unable to recover toc' blah blah blah. nothing seems to work with this nero thing. on the other hand, i had been successful with the winAvi video converter most every time (even using the so called crappy media/dvd-r's). i'm at a total loss here. you've been very patient and helpful, and i've tried just about everything the forums have suggested. don't know what else to do. here is a sample of the end of the last error log that it gave me now, just so you could see i got more or less the same error. and yeah, i had defragged the hard drive, rebooted, didnt have anything else running in background, etc. let me know if you can think of anything else. and thanks again for everything. you always burn at 2x? please try 6x toc = table of contents (information on disc) maybe 2x isnt possible? try nero info tool to see speeds.. (disc tab) try running nero drive speed with a dvdr in too... did we install an ASPI layer? http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/downloads/ms/ms_win_xp?productId=ASPI-4.70&dn=Windows+ASPI+Package
