I have a sony dru-700a dvd burner. it seems to be burning at 0.8x speed. This cannot be good. Is there something I am missing? I have an AMD 2000+ processor and 512mb. I am using an external HDD by maxtor. I use dvd shrink and dvd decrypter

Howdy, seems a little slow. It can depend on different things. First, is DMA instead of PIO used for the DVD drive?
Is the external HD via USB, USB2 or FW? Is it very fragmented?
What kind of brand do you use for burning? Have you tried other brands? Does it burn this slow when you burn CDs as well?
Do you burn DVD-/+RW or DVD-R/DVD+R. DVD-/+RW is usually slower, but still should it burn in 2.4x.

Add a USB 2.0 I/O card ... or put the data on to your pc's hard drive.
