I am new to the board and I have a question. I have a HP DVD Writer 1040D, it is fairly new about 4 months old. Today I made a backup of a movie and a burn that usually takes 10 minutes on 6X took over 30 min. The Buffer level kept dropping back and forth and I never got a strong level. I am using Nero as my burning software if this needs to be broght up. Any info would be appreciated

Check Device Manager, under the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, and see if the burner has reverted to PIO mode. If so, uninstall the controller, reboot, and see if it shows as Ultra DMA Mode.
