DVD burner used as DVD recorder

    Is it possible to use a DVD Burner as a DVD Recorder?

    what exactly do you mean by this? do you mean for recording tv shows? (like a dvr)

    Yeah, or if i hook my computer screen up to a tv, record that.

    yes you can do this, however there is some hardware requirements to be met first.
    you will have to get a tv/video capture card for your pc (most are for pci slot)
    the most popular/reliable are hauppauge and can be found pretty much anywhere (including newegg.com). in order to do hdtv you will also need to get what is called "cable card" (i wont be able to give you information about these since i have not used them).

    after that it's pretty simple. your pc now becomes a tv and you can record tv shows at will, mainly directly to your hardrive but some programs will also brun to dvd afterwards if you would like to.
