I'm extremely new to this dvd burning lark and want to buy a p.c. which can do all i need regarding copying dvd's and cd's. Can anyone point me in the direction oof the info i need to get me started......any help at all would be great.....also is it possible to copy xbox and ps games
Hi, almost any pc can do what you wish, and if not, the addition of a good usb connected dual layer external burner will solve that problem. Qualities you want 1) a fast dual core (or even better a quad core processor) 2) lots of hard drive memory, say >500 Gb 3) 2-4 Gb of RAM memory 4) a nice high def monitor say>19 inches 5) a good video card 6) lots of money Jo
How much money is lots of money, roughly speaking......thanks for your response......i'm really greeen when it comes to this stuff
Thanks loads for your advice Jo....i have found thru experience that is better to be direct and if money is the subject then its better to find out exactly how much is involved and while she is thinking about it i can leggit.....then i get to keep my money.....clever eh? LEL...any way dya think 800 yoyo's would get me the gear i need.
You might be better posting in the pc forums, if you give them a rough figure and an idea of what you want to use the pc for, gaming, etc., they will come up with some suggestions for you. http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/216
Also, Get a quality dvd-rw drive like Pioneer,NEC,LG,Lite-on,Samsung. Burner quality is critical, and helps the compatability factor for when you play your backups on stand alone players,pc drives, and game consoles. Some of the finest dvd-rw drives could be had for well under $40 from newegg.com. Graphic's cards will jack up the price. Worth the $$ if you're a gamer. Maybe not so for a non gamer like me. Most of these bundled pc's like Dell,HP,Compaq,Emachines, etc: They give you low quality parts like ram,low wattage powersupplies, and usually a crappy burner. Myself,I bought an HP and gutted it out the 1st week that I got it. New antec 450 w power supply, extra gig stick of PC3200 ram, extra 200 gb maxtor hd,extra fans/ blowers, and one of my many Benq dvd-rw drives. The original main HD and graphic's card is the only thing left.It has been a very reliable pc with 1000's of dvd backups. It's illegal to burn movies and games, but there's a loophole when it comes to backing up your already purchased PS and Xbox games. Of course, your game consoles will have to be modded out to be able to play backup games.
Thanks for all your help so far. At the moment i have an old Dell latitude laptop which has a pentium II chip(i think). I have Nero Express OEM Suite and a 16X 2.0 USB Empress DVD writer which has a pentium III with 256mb of memory and also has 2Gb of hard disk space. Also, the box off the DVD writer is marked DVD+R/RW,DVD-R/RW,DVD-RAM And CD-R/RW. IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE that could tell me if this equipment would be suitable for making back up copies of movies and games or will i still have to shell out for a new system. Any help at all would be mucho gracias amigos.
Hi, typically, to make back ups of dvds, you need at least 10 Gb of HDD space and 25 Gb if you plan to procees your files. So I would need to say you are lacking in pc resources. A new pc with 250 Gb of HDD and a fast duo core processor and a dual layer burner would fit the bill. Oh, de nada Jo
Gotta have a lot of HD space or you will crash. Most of the avg {non gamers) computers out there come standard with over 200 gig hd, 1 gig ram,and pretty good speed processor.I like to keep an eye on the average $400 compaq,HP,emachines and compare the specs over the years. The price always run in that same range, but the specs get bigger/faster every year for that $400,including the monitor.I don't suggest buying one of these PC's,but all depends on what you want to do with it. I've got a pentium 2 and it's was a very good pc with non compressed backups. It'd fly with backing up dvd-5 to dvd-5 with only 498 mhz celeron/30 gb hds/and 256 mbs of ram. But,backing up the larger dvd-9 onto blank dvd-5,no way.I also couldn't store more than a couple of movies on it. It'd take days to do a backup using compressing programs like dvd shrink and nero recode 2. With no compression,it'll actually backup faster than my main pc,athlon 3300+/450 gig HDs/1.5 gig pc3200 ram.
Thanks for the replies amigo's. I really am green to all this p.c stuff and so i could do with an interpretor for your feedback(BUT THANKS FOR IT)....i'm feeling like i need to upgrade to a new laptop but before i part with the cash i'd like to try to burn DVD's on my existing equipment first. That way if i funk anything up,well it was heading for the bin anyway.....how do i find out what exactly my p.c is capable of and how powerful(if at all)it really is....as usual any help would be great.
