I have not found any newer firmware update for this drive, Toshiba is not giving out any support. Fraid, with the newer media this could be causing a problem. I agree with memory usage should try to cut down on running background programs. Could try different media. :~)

Thanks for all your help is it not a bit strange that for ages it was burning a disc in under thirty minutes then suddenly it one day started taking twice as long, or this what usually happens?

Do you think that there might be something in the background that I have running which i dont know about? Is there anyway of me showing you what applications I have running because when I look at them it makes no scense dont know what to close down?

    Many Thanks Again

    Adam

In XP go to your start menu, run, type in msconfig and hit enter. When screen comes up go to startup tab and you will see everything that is loading up on computer :~)

Going back to square one,if no new processes are running, why has the burning time doubled (assuming that it is always 2x)?
Assuming the dvd writer is sound and the available ram has not changed,is it possible that the HD has become overly fragmented (from decrypting, etc)?

Hi I can see everything that starts up but I dont know what half of them are I am worried that if I try and remove the ticks from certain things I might mess things up even more. I tried a defragmation when the problem first started after reding through over people forums.

Go into device manager, try disabling your dvdrw and the IDE channel the dvdrw is on, one at a time. Are the buffer levels cosistant or bouncing from low to high?

Since this is the newbie area and I don't think a new thread is warranted, can someone tell me why Adams printout shows the same starting and ending sector numbers?Or are they irrelevant.
My logs show different start and end numbers and Adams log indicates that the burning time will be 28 mins.

Does this mean that this forum is over? Why no more thread's?

What I did try is going into my system configuration utility and in the general tab I change my start up too diagonistic start up and then rebooted I went into task manager and hardly had any applications running thinking that this would improve my ram (?) I tried burning a disc but again 60 minutes later I am in the same situation.

No, I didn't mean to imply that I think the subject is closed, just that I would like to know why your log indicates the same start and end locations which contradicts my logs.I don't know if the point is relevant, but since I am a newbie I want to have the point cleared up with the help of the grizzled veterans :)

@attar - don't worry about those parts of the log, you're looking too hard :)

look at the way i and the others attacked the Nero log, there's not usually much more to it really.

will address Adamc2326's questions in a moment.. i'm slow so have to look a couple times..

@attar - right, post your logfile if you like, we can attack it.

@Adamc2326 - we could have a go at looking at the msconfig processes, you could post a screenshot or something, but you have a burner that's effectively 2yrs out of date, not really very much memory for the task you're trying to do.

you could post your own pictures - i do this the same way, but i copy/pasted this from one of the moderators' posts -

Step 1: push ctrl + PrintScreen (above the insert button)

Step 2: Open paint .. click start -> programs -> accessories -> paint

    Step 3: push ctrl + v

Step 4: crop your image. I crop what I want to show -> cut it -> open new -> paste it. [bold]Crop only what you want to keep[/bold]

    Step 5: save as jpeg

Step 6: Host the jpeg here: http://imageshack.us/

lol. ca you redo it with the processes using most memory, sorted from the top, ie click on the 'mem usage' column so the memory hogging processes are at the top of the pic...

@Adamc2326 - pls redo the first two images as i need to identify the processes that are MOST memory hungry. click on the mem usage column until the larger processes are at top (ie processes with the biggest numbers!), you've almost got there, the processes you showed were using the least memory
