    Hi All,

    Iam running XP home with SP2, which is kept up to date. I have a DVD drive and DVD Philips DVDR 16LS, running Nero and, although I can still play DVDs on both drives and burn DVDs from my hard disk, I can no longer copy either CDs or DVDs, either direct from one drive to another or in the case of DVDs by downloading onto my hard and copying from there. Any suggestions?

    Hello.

    It would be helpful if you would explain exactly what problems are occurring at what stage of the process in some greater detail.

    Are you backing up commercial DVDs you own?

    Can you rip OK to your HDD?

    Is it just the burning process that fails?

    Are you burning at 4X or a higher speed?

    What media are you using?

    Can you post a Nero log section for your failed burn attempt? The NeroHistory log is in one of these paths depending on the version:

    Nero 6: Program Files -> Ahead -> Nero -> NeroHisory
    Nero 7: Program Files -> Nero -> Nero7 -> Core -> NeroHisory

    Be sure to edit out your name and program serial number before posting.

    I can rip CDs using Media Player but cannot rip DVDs using any programme. When attempting to copy either CDs or DVDs using either Nero or CloneDVD, I get a message saying that the burn failed - this happens right at the beginning. This is despite being able to rip CDs from either drive and being able to play DVDs on both drives, plus being able to copy onto either CD or DVD from my hard drive. I have tried burning at both high and low speeds and it doesn't make a difference. I have tried using both + and - but not dual layer, plus I have tried various different makes of media, including ones that worked just fine before. I have tried burning using the DVD player drive for the original media and the DVD recorder to burn, and also tried using the DVD recorder drive for both - neither worked. I have tried using the following programmes for burning - Nero Express and Nero Burning ROM, and Clone DVD. All three used to work just fine.

    Please help

    Most of the time you have to rip DVDs to your HDD in order to back them up. If the disks are copy protected, you need to rip them first to the HDD. Are you using AnyDVD running in the background? If not, try Ripit4me (free) and let us know if that's successful.

    Make sure you use good quality media like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and made in Japan labeled Fuji and Sony and try burning at 4X speed.

    If you can burn from your HDD, it would appear your burner is working.

    What version of Nero are you using? What version of CloneDVD.
