oh well i just flushed it? took the battery out, moved the jumpers etc. So then everything was clean with the new SATA drives instead of the old IDE ones. as for pic you attached, its slightly different on my PC, plus as im at work and wont be home again till Sat morning, i wont be able to do any more on it ( think i will just buy a new drive for £50
Rotary has some excellent suggestions. I second him on checking your BIOS; I just installed a new DVD burner and ROM and although everything looked good in device manager, my slave was set to "off". Couldn't burn anything; although odd you can burn DVDs. As for burners, I'm very happy with my Lite-On (not SATA though). i could try a nero re-install, but dont think its going to make much of a change as i only installed it last weekend on the new HD, before this it wsa still playing up, so its had one fresh install already and i even updated it to see if it makes any difference. will check the bios thingy later at the weekend when home. thanks again
is your ide useing "standard dual channel pci ide" ? if so this is just the operating susyem default drivers, and not the motherboard ide drivers!

Morning. Ok back at the pc: 1). I dont have Nero incd installed. 2). Just updated the ASPI 3). my IDE set up in the link below: http://www.webm8.co.uk/ide-bits.jpg will do a restart and see if tha ASPI made any diffeenec. THanks guys
why have you got 2 of everything? 2 controllers / 2 primarys / 2 secondarys? you should have 1 of each
