Hello, I work at a law office and my bosses are always asking me to make copies of evidence DVDs. Normally I take the DVDs home rip and burn. Problem is I use free software and the ripping software I have only rips (like DvDecrypter) and the burning software will not make an ISO for me. This was never a problem because I only have 1 drive in my laptop at home anyway. However, I am leaving this office and would like to leave them with an easy to use software to make copy of these non-protected DVDs. Something where they can put movie in Drive 1, blank in Drive 2, hit 'copy' and have it clone the DVD. Anyone have any suggestions for FREE solution for this? It's small office and my boss isn't too keen on spending $50 on software, though he will if there are no free options.

Lawyers at a law firm that cannot pay $50 for duplicating software? For what lawyers charge per 15 minutes (unless all they do is pro bono work) this is an outrage.
Sure, I agree that most lawyers make more than the average, bur for the most part most are making under $100K a year. If you ask me, still good money. However, a lot of firms, including the firm I work at don't do glamorous work. We do DUI defense, we're lucky to get 1-2 new clients a week. We handle the whole case for $2-5K. Each case can take 1 month to a year. If we're lucky and get 2 clients a week at 5K that's $520K a year. Staffing three attorneys full time, a secretary, a clerk, and a runner, with office supplies, malpractice insurance, utilities, research (WestLaw is rather exepensive), and bad-clients who don't pay..... I don't know how they stay afloat. Not really my business since I'm leaving in about 2 weeks, which is why I want to leave them with an easy solution so they can copy their stuff. Like I said, they're not unwilling to pay the money for the software, but why not spare the $50 if there is a free solution.

Hey man, I appreciate the help. The thing is, these DVDs are not at all protected, half the time they're data and the copying could actually, probably, be done with a program that clones data DVDs without regard for read/write/copy protections. If nothing exists (for free) where I can just put the DVD in 1 drive, a blank in the second, hit "COPY" or "CLONE" and have it just attempt a copy... then I'll tell them to just cough up the cash for NERO, where I know it can be done. I burn my own DVDs using DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and NERO, but these are simple people haha, 3 clicks and they'd be lost.

IMHO the simplest and best software for the task is ImgBurn. Read Mode will create an ISO on your Hard Disk, Write Mode will burn that ISO (optionally automatically deleting it). Easy Peasy.
Best bet if dvd is already sized to dvd-5 is ImgBurn.It's a more improved dvd decrypter and very similar. I do like my oem version of Nero 6.6.0.18. It does a fabulous job as well on rip and burn on the fly. If you have any contol of who makes the 1st evidence dvd,see to it that they use quality media and a basic 4x-8x burn. Too fast burning,and/or crap media,it'll lead to Crc errors. Then you're in for a heck of a ride.
