You're welcome. Some of those problems are compliance errors induced by the heightened copyright protections. That's where FixVTS or VobBlanker come in. A quick test (not 100%) for compliance is to use the quick analysis in DVD Shrink. Most often, if Shrink analyzes it, it can process it. Since Shrink does minor corrections on its own, the quick analysis doesn't always mean the files will work in other apps. Usually the FixVTS and VobBlanker make the files compliant and usable by most apps.

    brobear,
I just downloaded an update from Nero last night. On dial-up it took forever and there are a few more to go! I still don't know what version I've got, but my movies play just fine. I'm a hardware person so all the processes you guys go through are greek to me. I can edit the registry, so that takes care of things for me.

Version numbers of installed software can be accessed in the Nero InfoTool. The Nero site lists the current versions released, which is what you get unless you have access links to the older software. BTW, editing the registry doesn't fix everything.

Sounds like most people are getting this ripped. But I have tried DVDFabExpress and it locks up have way trough (about 52%). I have tried AnyDVD and it locks up at 51%. I have tried PGcEdit, again with no success. I don't ever get to the shrink step. Any other suggestions?

It sounds more like your problem is due to either a dirty/scratched or imperfect disk. Try cleaning it or return it and get another. Since you are getting the error at the same point with both AnyDVD and DVDFab Decrypter it is more likely CRC then protection.

I agree with Arnie, it sure sounds like a problem with the disc.

I'm experiencing the same problem- the disk doesn't appear to have any scratches on it either. I'm using the latest version of AnyDVD 5.9.5.6 in the background and running DVDFab Decrypter. It goes one pass then it gets stuck 1/4 of the bar...nothing changes. I deleted both programs and cleaned my registry and then re-installed them. Still it gets stuck at the same point. AGAIN- no scratches! Anyone have a different suggestion??? Thank you in advance.

The latest version of AnyDVD is 5.9.6.1, yours is out of date.

Use one or the other but do not run both together, they do not get along. Try ripping with the built in AnyDVD ripper, just right click on the redfox in the tray and rip to your HDD. If you are getting a CRC error it is more than likely a bad disk, even though you cannot see the scratches it does not mean there is not some kind of imperfection in the disk.

Arniebear is right. Do a read scan and see if you get any bad sectors. Problems can be with a faulty press where you can't see a physical flaw. I've run into this on a few DVDs. Some would even play good on a standalone, just caused a problem when trying to record.
