Can dvd decrypter be used with nero the same way you can use shrink & nero together. As in how shrink reads the disc then ejects it then asks for a blank.

Decrypter is best used to rip the movie to your hard drive then you can open the file with Shrink and let it do it's thing. You can use Decrypter or Nero to burn,Decrypter will only burn ISO files. The newest version of Decrypter will handle the newer movies look for Ver. 3.5.4.0

Here are a few good guides to get you started!

Nero has its own shrink, its called nero recode.Nero recode works pretty much the same as dvd shrink, except that nero recode doesnt rip.You can use dvd decrypter to rip, and then open up those files in nero recode, and edit as needed.Nero recode handles larger amounts of compression better than does dvd shrink, and its faster than shrink.
If you have AnyDvd, then there is no need to rip first with dvd decrypter.Just open up nero recode, edit as needed, recode will shrink and burn, your project.

As a newbie it looks like the different 'Mode' options are:

In the Mode menu there are a few options. If I check 'ISO Read' it seems to make an .iso file. If I select 'File' it makes other files. The 'File' method makes files that play straight from the HDD but I can't seem to burn them onto a blank DVD.

You use 'ISO Read' for the burning DVD to DVD and the 'File' method for things like Divx conversions. For the latter method, and it look like you need to use another burnig program for those other file types to finish the task.

Maybe you cant burn them on a dvd, because they need to be compressed first.
Rip in the file mode, and open up dvd shrink, and click open files, and then shrink, and edit, as needed. When you click on backup, then choose, select backup target, iso image file and burn with decrypter.

If your dvd is small enough you can just use dvd decrypter and use the iso read/iso write.

    Thanks for the tips.

What seems to be the case is that DVD Decrypter can only burn using the iso read/iso write.

For the newbie like me, it could be made clearer in many of the guides that although DVD Decrypter rips using the 'file' method, it won't burn the resulting files. We need to use something like DVD Shrink as well as DVD Decrypter. This is especially so if the files start off bigger than the DVD media.

It's also worth noting that as an .iso & .mds files, they might not be playable on the pc in that format.
