Let me see if I'm getting this. Disks burned with the new Sony burner won't play and discs burned in a new laptop also won't play. You've also used TYG02 discs, some of the best and most compatible ever made. Sounds like a player problem. Can't you try the burns in a friends player?
I have had problem with my old sony dvd player and certin disc. They would play on pc and laptop but not on my stand alone player. It seemed to be just to old. If I remember correct it was -r. I started booktyping to dvd rom then the player would work fine.
