Hi, my dvd r/w drive recognises the free space and total size of a cd-r disk in the details in my computer, but when i insert a dvd-r it comes up as free space 0 bytes, total size 0 bytes even though the disks are new and empty. Is this normal, and if not, how can i get the drive to let me know how much space is on the dvd disks, thanks, Tom. P.S. I am running windows xp home edition, and it is a sony dvd r/w drive.

That's the way all mine report as well. WinXP has no built-in support for DVDs, only CDs, which likely accounts for what you are experiencing.
