So i have been trying to rip my music cd's for months now and they weren't working. I took my laptop into a shop they had a look at it and then they put a dvd in and it worked so i fort all was fine and they had fixed it. But it seems only DVD's will work in it. A friend told me Alcohol 120% which i use can interfere, but i wanted a second opinion and what to do if this is the case or any other ideas on what i could do thankS

BUT.. did they try a cd? It is common for one half of a drive to fail while the other works fine. Alcohol120% shouldn't have any effect at all on the drive capabilities, unlike roxio ;) Does alcohol see the cd? or even windows media player.. does it try to play the disk.. do you get access to the disk, or an "audio cd" icon pop up on the desktop... does the drive make clicking noises with a cd in it?
