As stated in the title, my dvd drive opens just fine if I hit the button as it is booting up, but it seems right when windows loads up, it stops functioning. It still shows up in windows, but when I attempt to open it it does nothing, and when I try to read the disk within it, tells me there is no disk inserted. Any ideas what could cause this issue?

Just because it opens doesn't mean "it's fine".

The mechanism to open/close the tray is wholly separate from the reading mechanism.

You probably have a dead DVD drive. You could have a disconnected data cable.

Whether or not the tray opens and closes tells very little other than there is power being applied to the itnerface.
