IMHO what I think is that it is not that the disks are burned badly I believe that the trouble lies more in the standalone and whether they can handle the new dual layer disks. I have two players that have no problem with these disks and play them flawlessly, and two that have freezes and stutters. I am purchasing a new DVP-NS50P/S Progressive Scan DVD Player from WalMart today to test out my theory, specs state it will handle dual layer and WalMart has a generous return policy in case it does not. As I said just my two cents :~)

    _EarnIt_,

Those DL disc are made by Ritek and should be fine if it weren't for the dye app. Memorex contracts only for the cheapest dye and app. Don't trust Memorex either single or DL discs.

FYI, No one ever said that you couldn't get Memorex to burn; we just said you'll have more trouble with it than any other media. As Memorex's DL discs hasn't been out that long we don't know BUT their single layered media had a history of failure to play after as little as 8 months and I had some that crapped out after 1, 1/2 years. You did OK with the burner BUT then again, there aren't that many burners that Memorex can purchase and then add their name.

Their media has a solid track record of being consistently poor. Words to the wise.

Burn on my Friend, burn on . . . .

I have to agree with you all about Memorex. I had a Plexwriter burner in my PC and I burned many Memorex CD-Rs and CD-RWs. These CDs were never able to be read on any other computer after I burned them. The CDs just gave me a UDF Reader error message (which I know was from the crappy Plexwriter) and the CDs themselves were basically worthless after burning. I could only access them from the Plexwriter.

Needless to say I got rid of the Plexwriter and got a Lite-On. And I'm currently researching what brand of DVD and CD media to burn with that new drive.

Oh yeah...and thanks for the link to DVD Indentifier. I think that little app will help me figure out whats going on with my DVDs.

    Hi dcloud, welcome to aD,

Always use a decent grade media. I suggest something like those discs made by Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, Mitsubishii or RICOH. Unfortunately they are also the discs most plagued by pirate Mfgrs. and for that reason I like dealing with Mertline, Supermediastore OR Newegg who have a great return policy on their products.
I have had great luck with Sony, Phillips, TDK, HP, Maxell +R (not the -R, they cannot be trusted), Fuji +R are fine But -R are not, Ritek, RiData, Verbatim DataLife and, Verbatim DataLife Plus discs are dependable and their prices are extremely reasonable. As a passing note, when buying Verbatim's, they come with a lifetime warrantee. Return them with your sales slip OR register receipt and a new one will be shipped to replace it.

For the best online media stores to shop, try -

    Mertline.com
    http://meritline.com/

    Newegg.com
    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-132-344&depa=0

    And,

    Supermediastore.com
    http://www.supermediastore.com/media1.html

    I hope that helps some,

    Cheers,

    Pete

8.5 Gig ISO images can be burned by DvD Decrypter & Nero6. Your Authering software would have asked (or automatically arranged) the layer break for you when creating the image. Don't ask me how the burning software knows where to find this from one single 8gig image file, but it does. I would also have expected two 4gig images.

I just created a whole pile of DL DvD's for about 20 friends who all wanted copies.

I created the DL image with Adobe Encore 5 and burned with DvD Decrypter but found that only 60% of the DvD players could play it.
My version of Encore is not able to do the DL burning itself hence the need for a 3rd party burning software.

The Next disc I saved "to folder" in Adobe Encore and copied the VOB's to Nero6 and created & burned the DL DvD from there. I had a 95% success rate this time. Only one guys Sansui player could not read the disc.

(OK this was only on about 20 different DvD players of friends, but all of various models and random ages)

The latest Nero does some compatibility enhancement as it's writing the leadout on the 2nd layer. Not sure what exactly tho but it works.

Or could it be that Nero creates the AUDIO folder which was missing in the image I burned with Decrypter?? - media too expensive to waste 20 discs on that experiment to find out!

I never had a single coaster from either DvD Decrypter or the Nero method BTW. Media was DL Verbatim 2.4x +R. Burner was LG GSA-4163B
Image file was almost the whole disc - 8.1Gig

    Thanks,

Now we know. Though I've done about 40 DL discs I haven't tried to burn a large ISO. I will give it a shot now that I know it can be done. As you say, at $5.00 a throw, one doesn't experiment too much. It would be super iffin they made a DL / RW media, then we could practice all kinds of things.

Thed only thing I've found out so far is, do not buy Memorex DL discs. Out of a pack of 5, I had 3 "Duds". It certainly teaches one a lesson when you watch $15.00 go right down the crapper.

    Burn on, . . . . .

    Pete
