I have looked around and searched threads a bit about dvd backups and playing them in stand alone dvd players.

So I have created my first dvd using a "certain decrypter" and dvd shrink linked to nero. It came out great and plays on my sony dvd player, but not other players. I want to know why??

I am using a brand new notebook with a Lightscribe Hp (hl dt st dvdram gsa 4084n) burner. Pioneer DVD-RW blank Dvd's. Followed the guides to a T.

Any ideas why its not working on other dvd players??

It could be that the other players will not recognize the dvd-r/rw format. You may want to check the specs of these other players.

yes, tomorrow I will try the dvd+r to see if it makes a difference. Although I remember reading some where that dvd-r or dvd+rw are have the best chance to play on all devices. Is that true?

The DVD-R and DVD-RW formats have a better chance of playing in all DVD players but I do remember seeing some at one time that only took DVD+R and DVD+RW. Give it a try and let me know the results.

Also try just plain DVD-R as many stand alone players won't play RW disks, either + or-.

so i tried the dvd+r that I bought for my lightscribe on HP and it worked great, on every machine I used. Verbatim is pretty good quality I assume.
