What kind of media did you use? Some players are picky and don't play both formats, DVD+R/- R

What DVD burner do you have? If your burner supports booktyping, you can booktype the DVD+rs to DVD-ROM for better playback compatibility.

If you go to the following link, you can find out what kind of media your player supports:

Sorry man, I'm no psychic :~)!
But if it is an older player, they have better compatibility with DVD-R media. I have a friend that has a VCR/DVD combo(a Sanyo, or Samsung, not sure). That thing is so picky it drives me nuts every time he calls and says the disc don't play. My player, an Apex, plays anything you throw at him! +/- R, VCD, data CDs with mpegs...I guess you won't know until you try the DVD-Rs.

That Sanyo that my friend has, if I borrow movies form my College Library, somwhere in the middle of the movie it freezes or skipps. The same movies play with no problems in my player. It is the worse player I ahve seen. I don't know the exact model, butit is a Sanyo. It did play the DVD-R that I burned though. Not the +Rs.

Before you give up on DVD+R booktyped to DVD-ROM, give it a try. That is why i use +R media and booktype to DVD-ROM. It should give you higher compatibility than just a +R or -R disc, but as stated by cyprusrom, individual players can be picky. If it doesnt take a ROM booktyped disc, then i try the -R format. Thats just the way i do it. ROM booktype is supposed to be the highest compatibility we can get in a burnt disc. I say supposed to be, as you never know with electronics and digital stuff. :)

    @Maxburn
    Here is something for you!
It just puzzels me! I never checked my logs, because the burns are successful...I was just looking for some reference, jut to see how it it supposed to be in a success burn, and I see the "ILLEGAL KEY REQUEST" error, and I just don't get it...the discs play absolutely fine! It happens with TY, Verbatims, Maxell MIJ and MIT, all DVD+R X8.
I scanned some of them with Nero CD/DVD Speed, and I get quality scores of 95-97. I just noticed that with everyone that I scanned, the 3 to 5 quality points drop right at the beginning of the scanning. That error looks like it would be media incompatibility. Yet, the burns are successful and the backups play perfecly!

    Hi buddy,
    Is that hacked firmware?
as this is all i could find listed at the firmware site for that drive:
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2157
1.05 is the only one listed. If not, i think 1.05 is an update to 1.Y5 or is it more advanced than 1.05? Its early/late for me, so my brain is fuzzy right now.
And it looks like you might have a firmware update for the other drive too:
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=123
    And on this one:
    That code comes out as
Now if i just knew what CDB stood for :) LOL The thing im using says this about those 0x05 errors [bold]These errors are difficult to specify a cause for. Most of the times the problem is in the system.[/bold]
But you say your getting good burns, and good scores. I wouldnt worry about it too much. I too notice some errors right at the first of a burn on some of my disc scans, and/or sometimes it happens right where a layer break would be, i get some pif spikes. The scores come out in the 90s so it plays back fine for me.
That illegal request occured right before the booktyping, but it booktyped it correctly according to the log. Maybe nero and your burner were trying to booktype at the same time, but they seemed to have worked that issue out between themselves, and went with the drives instructions for booktyping instead of neros booktyping instructions. If thats what happened. Just a guess on my part.

That is modified Liggy and Dee firmware...how do you like your drive btw, I have a 3540a and love it. My Nero cheat sheet is at the house, I'll look for that message when I get a chance.

Here another link for you arsenal Max: http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/index.html

Thanks locoeng, I added it to my homepage links. So he has the latest modified firmware? That link showed a 2.51 for the same drive right below the 1.51. Is that a modified firmware update??
Look at me, asking questions to something i dont even have a burner for.
Id better get some sleep, or eat something. I think my brain just ran out of gas.. :)
Oh, i see what i was doing, i was looking at the 5500 firmware while looking for the 3550 stuff. Got turned around/confused but that happens to me all the time. Ill have 2 or 3 windows open, and have even replied to the wrong person/window by trying to multi-task too much.

Driving that train, high on cocaine. Casey Jones you better watch your speed. Trouble ahead, trouble behind, and you know that notion just crossed my mind.(now why did that song pop in my head?)

    Hi Max,
    LOCOENG
Yes, it is modified firmware from Liggy. My Nec wasn't able to booktype, so I had to get modiffied firmware.

The reason it puzzles me is because I get the same error with no matter what media I use, and like I sad, the scans show a PIF spike right at the beginning of the scan. But no, I am not worried too much, as the playbacs are flawless, the burner is quiet like a sleeping baby, I have absolutely no concerns. I totally love it.

The other drive, it is just a reader, but I will update the firmware. Now, if the burner and Nero try to booktype at the same time, how would I fix that?
The reason I'm trying to figure why that error, is just becuse I was giving other some advice, and here I am , stumped with my own log!

If it's not giving you problems, I wouldn't worry about it, I don't think they should step on each others toes. Are you using NECwingui to flash your drive with? I just flashed my drive again the other night and noticed that I can permanantly set the booktype for my NEC using this gui...I hadn't noticed when I flashed before or either don't remember it. I say if it ain't broke don't fix it...LOL

I've got another link on SCSI errors at the house I'll PM you two when I get home...I wouldn't want our little secrets to get out..LMAO

    @LOCOENG
    LOL!
Yes, we wouldn't want that, let the secrets to get out!
I wsed Liggy's firmware that came packaged with BinFlash. Later, after I flashed, I saw some news as how Binflash 1.24 that I flahed with had a bug. I can try and flash it again with the new 1.25 Binflash. That's what you were talking about, the NECwingui?

Although, I have no other problems otherwise, and like you say, " If isn't not broke, don't fix it"
