Firstly do you try to see if your dvd is reading anything (my computer). If so just open a software dvd player and it will play

If its not reading anything then you might have a problem with your driver. Did you reinstall Windows 98 since you got it?

When you have driver problems with a dvd drive, windows automatically specifys it as a cd-rom drive and may refuse to play dvd.

If you want to try, visit www.driversguide.com. You will have to sign up but when you do you will have 1000's of drivers to use.
