Don't download the package with INCD.

If your drive is in fact an oem benq DW1620 then it is capable of booktyping dvd+r/rw to dvd-rom. Note: this can only be done with +r/+rw media not -r or -rw. Dvd-rom is the most compatable format and would be worth trying. You'll need some good quality dvd+r/rw's first.

isn't decrypter capable of the same booktype feature? her manual say's it needs -ram and cannot read divx. picky little thing if you ask me.

@mort it seems you have the same drive I think hers is only not the oem vers. what is your current firmware version?

This is getting a little confusing for a computer illiterate like me! The stand alone will only read DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD-ROM, Went into Hewlett Packard info page and according to their info the only possible chance I have is to burn using DVD-ROM or DVD-R (it states that the file type would be DVD Movie and apparently it depends on the stand alone.
I don't have broadband so to download Nero would take just about all day and all night (which is OK) but do you think it will solve the problem? And how do I get a key gen for Nero?

Should I try the download at http://tdb.rpc1.org/? I don't mind trying it - only problem is - and you are going to laugh at this - how to I backup my firmware? Told you I was computer illiterate!!!

@ marg use mort's link this guy definatly knows his stuff don't know how I overlooked the phillips brand seems both drive's were used by hp and called almost the same thing you might try to find which one has your original firmware listed AH02 I believe it was but I dont think you can go wrong w/ the link that mort gave there is a phillips flasher and tutorial in the link that I gave
any way's there is a flasher tool that will walk you through the flash.
@ mort do youknow why the dang. bro's site would list it as the benq look at the link I gave towards the bottom of the page in the newest updates section??

    l8nights,

The only thing I can figure is that both benq and phillips are made by the same company. You can flash phillips drives with benq f/w and could possibly even do it with the HP 630c.

    marg19540,

You can booktype dvd+r media to dvd-rom useing dvd decrypter. Open dvdd then click on the tools tab then click drive and then change booktype. Click on benq then after change for in the dropdown menu click on drive (dvd+r media). After new setting in the dropdown menu click on dvd-rom. Click change then ok. You can verify that booktype is dvd-rom after the burn useing this free proggy. http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ Note, you can oly change booktype on dvd+r/rw media.

IMO nero is some of the best burning software out there and I recommend it since you will probably eventually need a burning proggy to burn something other than IFO's. I would try to find nero 6 suite 3 oem. It is a whole bunch cheaper than nero 6 ultra and has everything you need for burning dvd's and cd's including nero recode 2 (which is similiar to and better IMO to/than dvd shrink and was wrote by mr dvd shrink. He works for nero now). Nero 6 suite 3 oem is the only oem vs to include recode 2. nero 6 suite 1 & 2 oem do not include recode 2 only the burning rom. Here's one link and example. http://www.coolerexpress.com/ne63oemsucdb.html $8.00 pretty good huh. You can also change booktype with nero 6.
