    I tried contacting Sony with the following message but they were not helpful at all.

    quote:I am trying to burn some data onto a DVD+R disk (manufactured by sony) but my drive does not detect the disk. Whenever I insert the disk, it changes the name of my drive from "DVD-R Drive" to "CD-ROM Drive". Looking at "Details" it says the drive has 0 bytes of free space and the total size is 0 bytes. When I go into the volumes properties, the information is given as follows:

    * Disk: CD-ROM 0
    * Type: DVD
    * Status: Online
    * Partition Style: Master Boot Record (MBR)
    * Capacity: 0 MB
    * Unallocated Space: 0 MB
    * Reserved Space: 0 MB

    This is a PCG-GRV680 Laptop with a Sony DVD+/-RW DW-U50A optical drive. They told me to reset the BIOS and reinstall the driver but that did not help.

    It may help to uninstall the drive through Windows. Try this:

    Go to Device Manager >

    Expand the tree for DVD/CD ROM Drives >

    Find the drive in question, right click it and go to Properties >

    Under the Driver tab, select Uninstall then OK.

    Now reboot and Windows should detect and reinstall the drive.

    If this doesn't help try the same steps as above except expand the tree for IDE ATA/ATA Controllers and uninstall either the Primary or Secondary controller depending on which one the drive in question is attatched to. Nero Info Tool can tell you which chain the drive is on under the Configuration tab.

    That's what my does :)

    Looks right ... so what's the problem? Your using a blank, unformatted disc ... what is it suppose to say?

    Have you even tried to burn something? What burning program are you using?

    I'm using Nero, but I assumed it wouldnt work because it is using the default 700megs for the capacity.
