Hello, I'm having problems with my dvd-rom reading dvd-r discs after I have burned files to them. The dvd-rom will read anything else I insert. I suspect it may have something to do with trying to enable DMA through DVD Region Free. When DVD Region Free prompts me to enable DMA, I select "yes" then i am prompted to restart PC, I select "yes" but PC fails to reboot thus meaning DMA remains disabled. Can anyone please help ? Thanks in advance.
Have you checked in windows [bold]Device Manager[/bold] to see if DMA is enabled. If it is in PIO mode you will get slow rip and burn times as well.
Tried to enable DMA in Device Manager but not sure how to. I select DVD/CD-ROM then "properties" but cant find any "settings" selection to let me change to DMA. Any suggestions. Thanks Windows XP Pro SP2 AMD Athlon 2200 512MB of RAM IDE DVD-ROM 16x LITEON DVD-RW 16x +,-
The DMA Settings will be in the Device Manager under the IDE Controllers. Not under the CD/DVD Although i doubt this is the reason why your DVD-Rom is not reading DVD-R , i suspect your DVD-Rom does not like that type of media being used (Do these discs work fine in a standalone DVD player,if so there is your problem) But as said before if you dont have DMA enabled on your IDE controller your rip and playback will not be as good.
Thanks Maven. Yes, DVD-R does play in DVD players.I suspected there may be more to it than just the DMA. Any suggestions as to which DVD media I use in future ? Thanks
