SGDVD - did you have NO regard whatsoever for my previous post? It is on :age one::. I nearly answered ALL your DVD concerns, as well as the likely future fate of DVDs. I gave good answers to ALL your problems, and explained alternative solutions.

If you followed my post, you can make your DVDs not look like shit. Again, I must emphasize dual layer burners, as that will be your best bet since you seem to want perfect copies. That is actually why I am greatly anticipating those new drives soon, which is the reason I burn PS2 games more than movies - compression is not my thing.

Sure, you can go buy your own DVDs, in fact I actually purchase my favorites. I bought the newly released Chinese movie "Hero" all the way from China! Speaking of that movie, has anyone seen it?

And I truely think you don't deserve these nasty comments, but you sure as hell asked for them. I prefer the intellectual debate, and I advise you do the same.

The point is to backup movies - and to do it WELL.

This thread has probably been more of a waste of your time than making "shitty" backups.

My backups are great! Want to buy some from me? (hah)I actually bought a whole bunch of DVD copies of movies from Vietnam... I wonder how they can be dual layered. They probably do it the real way. OK im getting carried away. Later.

all i said was dvd-r is sh*t. my opinion after 2 years.

you need to buy jewel cased media (verbatim, tdk, pioneer.....etc), you need to keep the size of the compression as low as you can (no dts), you shouldn't label discs...........

it's not frustration, it's just i cant be bothered to worry, just buy the original again if the movie is that good.

why would you watch a dvd-r if you own the original ?

my advice would be don't bother with it wait for blu-ray or if you must dual layer dvd-r

i don't remember vhs jumping and freezing after 2 years.......mmmm

the first set of dvd-r media i purchased with advice from this forum. at first everything was great apart from some movies were slightly blocky, but then a few months later about 50% of these discs i was recommended were unplayable. after that i used only verbatim datalife plus jeweled. bullshit advice is a great advantage ain't it.

dellusions you may have that in 10 years you will be watching you dvd-r discs with no problems, is quite amusing, no hold on very f*ckin funny.

why can't people on this forum just accept it is far from a perfect recordable format.

as for knocking blu-ray, can't wait till you are posting on here praising blu-ray over dvd-r.

Just wanted to say, in reply to SG's last post...you can't wait for us to praise blu-ray over dvd-r? you're gonna have to mate, it won't happen for a while!
i sincerely doubt im the only one on here that WON'T be rushing out and spending that much money on a new technology. Hell, my first DVD-r drive only cot me £200!

no

usually it is human error, not The discs u use (although there is some crappy media out there) that make blocky copys, no offence but it was probably either
A, your computer specs
B, your Backup Process eg the software u used
or C, you dont no how to do it properly so your just blaming us for your mistakes

im interested, what media did u use first?

also if u r all so intelligent, why are you on this forum ? you should have great wages and should be able to afford prerecorded dvd's. and if you want to transfer all your home video to dvd, there is a service which does'nt cost a lot. and it aint no dvd-r it's a proper pressed disc.
