Can anyone recommend a good brand for dvd rom's , or a specific dvd rom drive that will playback copied movies ?? sometimes not even copied music on CD-R's ( not looking to spend more than say $25.00 for )

I currently have a MSI dvd rom but it does not play copied movies for jack.

I do use Ridata/Ritek GO5's and they work great, play fine on my stand alone dvd player & my dvd-rom on my laptop, but not on my comp.

    Thanks,

Asus E616P2 Newegg.com $25.00. This drive is reliable and a very fast ripper.

    Good Luck

Have you tried to update the firmware on your MSI drive? It could be you just need to update the firmware to allow it to read the media. That could save you some money :)

If you have updated firmware and it still doesnt work then any new drive from http://newegg.com will work fine. I believe they have some there for $16.00

If your using it for ripping DVD's then I would reccomend the LiteOn's.

I hear that litey 167 is the cats meow for ripping speed. My litey 1653 dvdrw will rip at a little over 10x which isn't bad for a burner.

My JLMS 166 is the fastest of all my ROMs. I think Lite-On and JLMS are/were the same thing. I get +11X out of it all the time, for some reason it rips "chick flicks" faster...more talking less action, I guess. I found the JLMS website with all the drives listed but I did not see any way to buy them. Odd..http://www.jlms.com.tw/jlms.htm

I can rip a little over 10x on pressed, encrypted dvd's and 11x+ on non encrypted dvd's with my litey 1653S. Not bad for a dvdrw.

If the prices get comparable you might just want to opt for a dvd+-RW drive
