    Guy's

Slightly "off topic" I know but I ran into a problem this weekend.
My DVD ROM that I use to rip movies has become region locked in region 2 and won't allow me to play discs from any other region.(I wanted to try "The Great Escape" but failed miserably) Anything that I can find on the topic tells me that this is irreversible.
Has anyone else encountered this and, more importantly, found a solution.

Try here for a "hacked firmware".
    The firmware page : http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php

If there is no RPC1 firmware for your dvd-rom then consider a LiteOn LTD 163/165/166.

    Shoey :)

I just wanted to pass on my gratitude for your directions. Followed your link and resolved the situation. Last night I was able to rip from a region 1 disk to hard drive and convert as usual.

Once again, this forum has sorted out a problem for me.

    Thanks again.

    peterj.
Your quite welcome m8. If you do dvd rips on a routine basis and find your brand to be on the slow end then take my advice and grab a LiteOn LTD 163/165/166. The dvd-roms (in my opinion) are the best "all in one" dvd-roms you'll find. They rips dvd's at 11-12x audio around 23x and superior dae accuracy as well.

    Shoey :)
