Shrink will automatically open the disk in "Full Disk" mode. Click on the "Reauthor" tab. You will now see the list of titles (1 and 3). They will show the same size and play duration. Drag and drop either title to the lefthand selection column. It doesn't matter which title you choose as they are identicle. Howver, you are going to lose your menus. Shrink will not retain menus in "Reauthor" mode. Now proceed as in my previous posting. If you feel that you absolutely must have menus then you will have to create new ones. The only way to do that is to change your "Backup Target" to "Hard Disk Folder". Make sure to choose "Create VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS subfolders". When you click "OK" you will be ripping your newly reauthored DVD to your harddrive. To create new menus you must now open your new VIDEO_TS folder with different software such as ConvertXtoDVD or TMPGEnc DVD Author 3, neither of which is free. Creating new menus is somewhat labor intensive for a newbie. My advice is that when copying from RW to +R, live without the menus unless you have many hours to kill.
Thanks for your help man. That worked perfectly. So, there is no way to get the simple menu that my DVD recorder made?
No. Not by using Shrink with my tried and true and incredibly easy method. It may be possible to save your original menu using other editing or reauthoring software of which I know nothing about. When I first started I also fretted about losing my standalone DVD recorder menus. After searching endlessly in the Afterdawn forums and guides, as well as in other "video help sites", I finally came to this conclusion: "What's the point?". Do you want to watch the DVD video that you successfully copied, or look at a menu for all of five seconds. Also, in all my searching, not once did I ever come across one article about these duplicate titlesets when copying from DVD+RW. Well, there is one now. By the way, I'm extremely happy to have helped you with your problem. I had to figure it out by myself.
I will agree with dialysis 1 that it may be possible to save your menu using PgcEdit and VobBlanker. And while I know about these two programs, I have never in all my copying experieces (I never stopped to count but I'd say at least a thousand) had the need to use either one. That includes copying DVDs originaly recorded from TV on a standalone, homemade from a camcorder, or backing up my purchased DVDs. But if you want to go through all that work to save one simple menu I'd say, "Brother, have at it." It's far easier to make a new simple menu or even complex multiple menus using the software I mentioned in my previous posting. I have done so many, many times. Whatever is easier for you.
Yeah I was looking at the step by step guide on the first page. It looks like quiet a bit to go through. Also it looks like it would take awhile to learn it. I think I will just stick with no menu for now. Might give it shot later on sometime. I just want to Thank both dialysis1 & Peshtigo for all your help. I have been trying to figure this out for about 2 weeks now. Thanks so much you guys.
Hey, I seem to have another problem. I have 3 more RW discs that I need to burn to a +R. I started on my 2nd disc and done it the same way as the other one. Once Shrink Backs it Up to my hard drive. I go to the file and it says it is 0 KB. So, I double click it anyways and this is what it says: (Choose the program you want to use to open this file and it has a list of programs including IMGBurn. I choose IMGBurn and click OK. Then I get this: (Invalid or unsupported image file format! Reason: First image file part is less than 2048 bytes in size.) If anyone can help with this please let me know.
This is all it says: MNW (which is the name of the TV show on the disc) Type: File Date Modified: 9/15/08 4:46PM Size: 0 Bytes
When you used DVD Shrink, did you send the files to a new folder or did you create an ISO? How long did it take? In either case you should be able to open the folder or the ISO with Shrink.
I opened DVD Shrink clicked Open Disc, choose the drive the disc was in and clicked OK. Then hit Re Author then dragged and dropped the first title to the left side. Then hit Backup. I selected ISO Image File for the backup target. Then I hit OK and it took about 10 to 12 mins to backup. With the first disc I done once it go t finished I could just go to the file. Double click it and it would open IMGBurn for me to burn it to a +R disc.
Open Shrink. Then click on File and then on Open disc image and see if the movie that you wanted is in that ISO. Try playing it also with Shrink. What size is the ISO?
I have deleted the file that says it has 0 bytes in it. And ran the disc through shrink multiple times. Its like even though I selecting ISO Image File. Its not giving me a ISO file.
