    Hi..
I have a issue with my DVD RW Drives
    Lite-on shw-160P6S (PGS1)
    Toshiba SD-R5372 (TU55X)

When I insert a Disc (DVD o regular) the computer works slow and sometimes it frozes up, this is only when DMA is on.
if i have PIO Mode only this never happen.
but this is only when reading.
for writing my drives can do in DMA

I have 2.21 GHz Atlhon with 1.62 Ghz RAM
My drives have a 80 Pin ide cable and configured as cable select (before lite-on master and toshiba slave (same thing happened)

anyone have a clue how to solve this..
    I'd apreciate it.
    Thank you.

You could see if there is a firmware update for the burner, and you could try setting the drives up as Master and Slave instead of cable select.

BTW, you have an 80 wire/40 pin cable.

Never saw an 80 pin cable before. Do either of the drives work correctly, if only one is connected?

The 80 conductor means it has 80 wires, not pins. Look at the back of your burner, and tell me it has 80 pins. It doesn't.

No need to be sorry. It is a common misconception of how things are stated in computer lingo.

Did you check to see if there was a firware update for you burner? There is always the possibility that the burner is dying or the ribbon cable has gone south.
