Sounds like a media issue to me. What brand/type media have you been using?

I have been using Memorex 4x, +R. It has been burning at 8x(Plextor PX-708A). I picked up some -R and will give it a try.

Out of curiousity, who is the manufacturer of the Memorex +R? The 708A will only burn at 8X with the good stuff like RICOHJPNR01. You can use this to ID the manufacturer:

    http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

It may help to burn at 4X. I played my copy of Kill Bill, which was burned at 8X (RICOHJPNR01), on an older Hitachi player and it skipped like I've never seen before but after I reburned it at 4X it played flawlessly.

Good media to try would be Ritek G04, Verbatim Metal AZO or Taiyo Yuden.

That is a media issue in about 99% of all cases.
