mkv files are NOT dvd's they are a container that is created to hold encoded converted dvd files,so what is it your using as a source as by the explanation you've used it appears to be an mkv,in which case this is in the wrong section

Are you converting a DVD to MKV/MP4 format? Not sure which converter you tried so can't tell as of yet.

if its a dvd its an iso file containing probably vob files, if it contains mkv files then a data disc.
to convert mkv to mp4 i think you'd need to re-encode the whole file.
    what programs are you using???
what is the original file (dvd iso ?mkv file?mp4 file?)

dvdflick can convert an mkv file to an iso (it will create a disc image file) then you can burn that to a dvd-/+r that will play in a standard dvd players.
