permiggs, yes it starts copying and stops at a certain point with the error. One or two files/ burned dvd - copied, but the rest, say 5, didn't. I can see all the burned files and indeed, I can open them.... I guess they would crack at the same point where it brings up the error when I try to copy it. I will test one. There's not a lot of disk space on the drive (around 2GB free). The media is called Omega, 4,7GB, +R. But I used another 3 or 4 different firmwares. All bought from a local shop. But I live in Romania. Miles away from any good quality product. You ain't that far away from top quality footy players... Take Drogba back! Bring MUTU! ... I'm sure you can find a couple of Verb's in Romania... That IS the main thing here, i guess... Also if you have only 2 Gb free... That could be an issue as well. That means you can't do a Temp. Another thing: RAM. Can you tell us what you have there? I have the feeling your system is quite weak...
yes, creaky, great link u gave me. It would be great to be just a media problem. It would explain it. But so many dvd's and so many firmwares seemed just not probably, that's why I thought my burner cracked. I don't know. ...Again, thanks guys, you saved me a lot of time and trouble.

your pasted section of logfile threw me as you pasted a section of logfile from where you must have used the Benq CD burner for something ie "Recorder: <ATAPI CD-RW 48X16> Version: A.UZ". you nearly had me there - ASPI layer is corrupted, try this, version 4.71 from here - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm - not too bad, 6.6.0.18 is latest 6.x version - i see your dvd burner's a TEAC. latest firmware for this burner is U4S7, but this is dated Aug 2004!!, which means it's gonna have trouble recognising newer discs.. here's the firmware link - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1820 But at least it's recognising the current discs
