Hi Everyone! Hopefully there will be someone here who can help me. I have to admit up front being totally computer illiterate LOL I have some DVDs with music videos/concerts recorded on them, and I would like to convert parts of the DVDs to quicktime or avi--something that I can upload and share with a friend online. I got forty-two DVD VX+, and I used it to extract (is that the right word?) one music video. It came out in an .mp4 file (the video I assume) and an .ac3 file (the audio?). What I cannot figure out is how to combine the music and the video! I opened and played the .mp4 file and the video played fine, but there was this awful static noise. I have QT 7 Pro and I have a Mac Mini G4 with OS 10.4 if that helps. Can anyone help please?? Thanks so much Maria
is this dvd encrpted? if so rip it with mactheripper first. then get the vlc player and find the vob file that contains the video u want. then get ffmpegx and drag the vob over and select the file u want to convert it to. u can get all of this software here. also i may be wrong, but i thought u can't send qt or avi files threw emails because of copy right or some other thing. but im not sure. good luck!!!!!!!
Ok, I understand the mac the ripper part, I have that program... after I rip it, I get the vlc player? What's that? Could you point me in the direction of where to find it? Then I take the VOB file and drag it to ffmpegx? The result will be an .avi that has sound as well as video? Ok cool... I'll get started, I'll probably be back here with more questions along the way LOL... I'm actually planning to upload the avi to file hosting on the internet and then give the link to it to someone else. Thanks so much for the help!! Maria
OK I really need your help now!! I did mac the ripper on the chapter I wanted. I opened it with the VLC program and it played fine. I installed ffmpegX. I took the VOB that I had ripped and dropped it on the ffmpegX icon. The program opened but it didn't DO anything to the VOB! Supposedly a dialog box was supposed to come up asking what I wanted to convert the VOB to--it never did. On their website, it says you can drop the whole VIDEO_TS folder on the ffmpegX icon--I did that and still, nothing happened!! Plus, under the file menu, ffmpegX doesn't have an open to open a file. I'm completely stumped! I've come this far and now it wont work!! Can someone help me please?? Thanks in advance Maria
Maria, Personally I don't drop my file on the icon. If you are using the latest version of ffmpegX (v0.0.9s), open it, click on 'summary', drag and drop your file to the 'source format' window (it should say 'drop file here') then click on the arrow in the 'to' box for your target format. there will then be a drop down list you can choose which file you want to end up with. Hit 'encode' and you are away... works for me... best wishes, Slanko.
try what slanko said or do this. open up ffmpegx and click on the video tab. then click open at the top and choose the vob u want and then click on saves as and choose on how u want to save it as to your desktop. then click on the encode as and choose the one you want.
I just wanted to thank everyone for their help! I ended up using...I think it's called DVDxDV? to convert to quicktime .mov files, then I compressed them with iMovie. I have a question about DVDxDV. Some of the movies were coming out with sort of jagged horizontal lines across the screen, especially in higher action scenes. The help file said if that happened to check the "de-interlace" (??) tab, which I did, and then every single video turned out perfect, except 1. I re-did that one, made sure the tab was checked...still came out all "line-y". Anyone know what was going on? Thanks again for everything Maria
