Some of the more heavily protected new releases are causing compliance issues. DVDFab Decrypter helps a bit because it creates new IFOs following the rip. Fengtao got their software updated and it's been doing good on the new releases. Even AnyDVD isn't doing some of the new releases on its own. DVD Decrypter is obsolete, so it won't do some of the protections on newer releases. DVDD lost support and without updates, it's started becoming obsolete. A person can continue to use it with PSL2 files if they want to take that option. But back to the compliance issues; if a person has problems along those lines following a rip, then FixVTS or VobBlanker can be used to process the files.
Lately, I have just been using AnyDVD in the background and ripping straight with VobBlanker to my HDD. Have not been having any problems with the files this way using Recode to transcode. However, for RB I have been using AnyDVD with Decrypter. I tried The Cave with files from VobBlanker and had audio problems on playback, I believe because RB had to extract the still images from the blanked cells. Had no problem with the Decrypter rip though, but that may just be my setup that did this and caused the problem.
The compliance problems are the reason I use FixVTS following the rip. It fills empty sectors and creates the IFO for playing the files. I've done "The Fog", "The Cave", "The Legend of Zorro", and others without playback problems.
brobear thouhgt you would like this info. New Version AnyDVD 5.9.0.0 (Beta?) http://sandbox.slysoft.com/SetupAnyDVD5900.zip Password Zip: ripper 5.9.0.0, 2006 02 09 - Important: When installing this version over an existing installation, you must reboot your machine. Otherwise the changes made in the AnyDVD device driver will not have any effect! - New: Added workaround for DVDShrink / Nero Recode "Out of memory" error when copying Macrovision RipGuard protected discs with menus, e.g. "Madagascar" R1 (US) - New: Error zones on RipGuard/Arccos/PuppetLock protected titles are now replaced with "valid material". 3rd party tools like DVDDecrypter will now work better (no more "Pack Header Error" messages - another try, this time it should really work). - Note: To use DVDDecrypter with AnyDVD set I/O Model to SPTI or ElbyCDIO. Set CSS Cracking method to none. Disable checking for structure protection. - New: Added "AnyDVD Ripper". This little tool repairs defective DVDs while copying them to your harddisk. It can be started from the menu of the AnyDVD fox icon. It is identical to FixVTS (http://www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS/) but instead of fixing problems "in place" it copies the files to your harddisk directly from the source DVD. It fixes the problems while the files are copied. Some DVDs which have severe mastering defects e.g., "Menace II Society" R1 (US) can now be copied with all DVD copy tools (elby CloneDVD, DVDShrink, etc.) Many thanks to the author of FixVTS! "AnyDVD Ripper" is a tool intended as a "last resort". It is not beautiful, and some of its messages cannot be localized yet. - Fix: Hang after update check with some system configurations
I think I'll wait till they get it out of beta. If you notice the posts I've been doing on the heavily protected new releases, I've suggested FixVTS as a means to make problem rips compliant. Now I wonder if the guys at Slysoft were reading my posts. LOL I've already done Madagascar and a number of the new releases, including the ones I listed earlier. ARccOS, Puppetlock, Ripguard, bad VOBUs, and bad sectors (combined) are what's on a bunch of the new releases. I'd say the new AnyDVD will shave off a few steps and save 10 to 15 minutes per job. On second thought, I think I'll give it a shot if I run into another new release needing it. Problem is, I've already done most of the releases needing it. They'll probably have the new version out of beta before I have another occasion to need it.
The boys in the "dirty tricks" department for the factory DVDs sure are making it hard on the newbies.
DVDFab Decrypter and FixVTS are both free. I've used those as well as the AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter. So ripping with DVDFab Decrypter, fixing compliance errors with FixVTS, transcoding to an ISO folder with Shrink, and burning with DVD Decrypter or Imgburn is all free. So the freebie group can still get by. That is if they know how. Also, there is the method of using DVD Decrypter with PgcEdit and a PSL2 plugin to do rips and then using FixVTS or VobBlanker to correct compliance issues.
http://www.imgburn.com/ They forced LUK out of supporting the ripper, but there's nothing stopping him from supporting the software portion of DVDD. That's the official site. There's downloads all over.
I would imagine, nothing wrong with burner software. This one doesn't seem to get too many updates, the last version has been up since 12/05. You're welcome.
I tried to get AnyDVD today but the Finnish web site said they no longer sell or support it. Can I get it somewhere else or is there another program I can use in conjunction with CloneDVD. Thanks in advance
Thanks Arnie Bear for the quick response. BTW, after installing that and Clone DVD, do you start Any DVD first then start Clone DVD? TIA
Here is an easy guide for the two programs. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/BACKUP WITH CLONEDVD&ANYDVD.pdf Just start AnyDVD put your disk in and give it 30 secs to break the encryption and then start up Clone and proceed. Good luck
Does it really take that long? Just messin with ya Arniebear. If left to start with the Autostart (default) the app is ready before you are. Also, as soon as you see the bright red fox icon on the taskbar (if you opt for manual start) the AnyDVD is ready. Some PCs are faster than others. Mine has it up so fast, by the time I glimpse my watch, the app is ready. vonschr As a matter of habit, I start AnyDVD first. The key aspect is having AnyDVD up and running when you go to backup a protected DVD. It has to break the encryption and other protections. You can open CloneDVD 2 install the DVD and then start AnyDVD. You have to have AnyDVD running when you go to start the recording process with CloneDVD 2.
Arniebear, Thanks. The programs work fine and pretty quick, however, I have this question. The first DVD i recorded worked fine. I use a blank DVD-R. The second DVD, Lord of War, was copied to another blank Memorex DVD-R. When I placed it in my DVD player, a message said this type of media cannot be played. Why then did the first DVD work and not the second. Any ideas? TIA
