dvdrom not reading or anything - it has power but won't read

    Long story short . . .
    I installed my friends dvd-rom drive and it does not show in device manager or my computer.
    I tried uninstalling the cd-rom (as it recognises that immediately) then reconnecting the dvd-rom. Still nothing. I made sure all leads were connected properly.
    It is compatible with the computer.
    It is doing my head in lol

    PLEASE HELP :)

    Was the optical drive working in your friend's computer? It looks like it could be shot.

    Is the jumper configuration set up right, for the way you have it connected?

    optical drive??? jumper configuration???

    I don't even know what they are lol

    I went in and deleted the registry key things . . . Someone I spoke to mentioned this may help.

    How would I do the above in question?
