Hi, ok im quite new to this and have read as much of your stickys as possible.

Ok the problems I am having are, when I burn a DVD using nero 7 premium the disk burns Ok but when I play it in my DVD player (standalone) the picture and sound is great but it just freezes. Ive tried burning from the GUI and letting nero convert AVI file and burn straight to DVD, ive also tried burning to HD and then burning to disk but this doesnt seem to help.

On some occasions I get pixelation, so ive tried burning at 1kbs so the pixels go away but I still get freezing.

Any more info you need please ask, and thanks in advance for any help.

    Liam

What brand of media are you using?
DL this program dvdIdentifier and see who manufacturers your blank media, then post that info

Also a good rule for burning speeds is half of what the top rated speed of the disks are.

lastly, is your firmware up to date?

    Hi 300bowler,

    My media is RITEKG05,

As stated I had tried burning at the lowest speed possible but even this did not make a diffrence.

About the firmware please dont ask about this because I have been searching google for hours on this subject and still have no answer. My pc is a HP pavillion media centre model :m7580.uk, from what I can make out it has a LG GSA-H20l DVD+/- r/rw installed. The current firmware is S742, searchin google it appears that as mines is not branded with "LG" the firmwares are diffrent.

If you have any suggestion I would be very grateful.

    Liam

have you tried using a lens cleaner for you dvd player?
or does commercial dvds play fine? air spraycans can help too.

Also can you post a burn log from nero
find it here Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core
    look for the nerohistory.txt file,
just post the last log as there should be many, and dont forget to edit your serial number out

also have you tried any other media beside the G05's?
your burner just might not like the Riteks you are using

Commercial DVD work fine, also some (very little) of the DVD I have made work fine aswell. What I tend to find is when im watching the movie and it just freezes if I press pause or stop and then just press play again it carries on as normal. I have not tried cleaning the lens.

I have tried diffrent madia, I was using Gigatain DVD+R, so bought the RITEKG05 so see if that would resolve the issue but it does not.

I made a DVD last night, converted AVI file with Winavi(latest version) and burned with Nero burning rom (classic version as per your guide) again superb quality but frooze twice, once I pressed stop and then play it was perfect apart from they two times.

I never save my Nero log but will burn a DVD shortly as I am downloading just now and post on here.

    I appreciate your time.

Nero logs are automatically saved to this location

Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt

Nero 7 history log location: Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory

does this only happen when converting files? or does it happen when you try and backup up commercial dvds?

one thing you can try that wont hurt is after you convert the AVI file run the Folder thru FixVTS, so it gets all the files nice and happy, for the burn.

other then that i would try different media like Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens

I don't beleive G05's are even being made anymore. Production stopped years ago. They were good media in the early days, but at the end crap.

Try some Verbatims as was mentioned.

I have never tried backing up a commercial DVD, all I am looking to do is download a film from Azureus, 95% of the time in .AVI format and then get that movie onto a DVD. If im being honest I never imagined it would be so complex.

I will be looking into your FixVTS suggestion.

For what I am trying to achieve would you recommend any particular converting/burning software, from personal experience?

With regards to the media, I just walked into the pc shop and the guy recommended these DVD-r to me, obviously seen me coming lol

    Again cheers.

ConvertXtoDVD is one of the favorites around here,
i use Nero Vision and ConvertXtoDVD,

I sure hope they were verbatims, IMO Most of those people that work at those shops dont know what they are talking about when it comes to blank media.
