DVD's Freeze when playback

I like to stack multiple movies on my Emerson EWR20v4. I usually use 8 hour compression. I use an RW disk to create a master and then copy it to R disks on my PC.
Far too often, after I finish recording a movie, I play it back to test it and the movie stops with "Freeze" in the upper left corner.
I've even had this happen using an R instead of RW disk.
Anyone run into this problem and have an answer? I appreciate any help I can get.

I'm not sure how that 8 hr compression converts to a percentage, but it sounds like you are compressing too much. It could also be related to type blank media used. Any compression below about 65% may start to cause playback problems.

I think I've finally solved the problem. I was using a Coby DVD player as the source to feed the Emerson. I borrowed an identical model from a friend to test with, and the problem seems to have gone away.

I have found though, as someone suggested, the higher compression gives me compatibility problems when I ask friends to play my final product on their players.

    Thanks, everybody, for the suggestions.
