Besides, the aerosol has a tendency to go all over the place and in some cases end up everywhere but where you want it. Wonder if throwing it in some kerosene would work just as well?
brobear, TDK is buying some of their media from cmc mag for their +r format. If you buy any TDK dvd+r's there is actually a pretty good chance of getting some cmc mag garbage. Here's some media codes. TDK DVD+R 4x (CMC MAG.F01) TDK DVD+R 4x (RICOHJPNR01) TDK DVD+R 8x (CMC MAG.E01) TDK DVD+R 8x (RICOHJPN R02)
Is there anyway you know of to tell which is which in the packaging? The Ricoh media is good stuff. They made or make some of the +R media for other top brands, Verbatim among them.
There's no way of telling by the label that I know of. I agree that ricohjpn is good stuff or at least used to be when it was sold under the branded ritek name. Riteks tools and ricohs blueprints.
I was just under the impression it was just Ritek wanting to get into another marketing sector. Until recently I had not heard of Ritek making it's own +R. Still haven't seen one, but I hear they're making them. The Ritek-RiData appeared to be a marketing ploy by Ritek to get into the +R retail arena. A friend recorded some DVDs for me once and used some of his Ritek-RiData that turned out to be the same media I'd been using, Ricoh. I have several brands that all use the same Ricoh and the manufacturer codes match to a "T". So, it appears Ricoh was selling the media to everyone who would buy and selling the same under the Ricoh brand. I was unaware that Ricoh had Ritek manufacturing the media for the Ricoh line.
I do have some branded ritek ridata dvd+r's media code RITEK R03 002. When I was using ritek dvd+r's, I always prayed that I would get ricohjpn's as opposed to ritek coded media. The RITEK R03'S are still better than average budget media however imho. I never had much luck with ritek G04 dvd-r's and therefor quit using them and never even tried any G05's.
I'd heard the RiData was now carrying the Ritek codes. Apparently there are different "lines" making the brand. Nothing like opening up a package and seeing that dark purple Ricoh dye. It always made me feel I was getting the good stuff. I won't get into Ritek, there's a story there. Let it suffice to say they played with the dyes and the quality was up and down for a while. Ricoh has kept up the quality and have now moved into the North American market with +R under their own brand.
That is good to know. I'll keep my eyes peeled when in the market for some more media. I primarily use verbatim dvd+r inkjet hub printables now but still like to keep some non printable media around. Take care brobear, good talking with you.
They're new to the NA market. The ones I saw were online. I don't know if they'll be in local retail shops or not. Good talkin to you Mort. Later.
