Just treated myself to a new Pc with Win Vista and a TV tuner.
Using media centre I can record TV to my PC.
I want to remove the ads etc from the beginning, middle and end of the recorded program and burn to DVD, so I bought Nero 8.
Having spent many hours fiddling around I'm still none the wiser as to how to do this.
Using Nero Vision I managed to trim the ads prior to the start of the program, but then the audio was out of sync.
The manuals only explain what each function performs. I can't find a 'how to' anywhere until I found this forum

Using my Panasonic hard-disk recorder it takes less than 5 mins to edit out all the ads. etc - It's so easy.
Nero seems to be way over-complicated for such a simple task.

Can any kind soul point me in the right direction please

    Thanks
    Pete

It's the little special dvr-ms wrapper that Microsoft uses for the mpeg2 stream that cause's this to be a chore; otherwise, any editor would suffice. Nerovision, in my experience, just sucks, especially in its Nero 8 incarnation. Nerovision has lots of problems with sync from time to time since it can't just seem to edit without messing with the stream. I use either VideoRedo or TMPGEnc Author for editing TV footage. Redo is about the easiest to use for just stripping the stream from the dvr-ms container and editing out commercials. It even has sort of an automated ad marking system. There is a free trial and if you are going to be doing a lot of this is worth the cost imo. TMPGEnc Author also works well and has the added bonus of menu making, etc. It also has a free trial.

There's also DVRMSToolBox for stripping the stream from dvrms and other tasks w/r to Media Center.

Thanks laddyboy - I used MS movie maker in the end - it's already on the pc and is soooo easy to use!
    Best wishes
