I am looking for a piece of software for editing movies.

I used it a while ago but cannot remember the name of it DOH.
What it did was to highlight the places where the adverts in the film started and ended so you could take them out, and you were left with an ad free film.

What i am trying to do is to condense series3 of Lost which i recorded from tv so i can watch all the series without the adverts.

I use videoredoit to remove commercials off of my tv recordings, maybe that's what your thinking about. It has a built-in commercial scan feature that will highlight what it thinks are commercials. It's not always accurate but it usually gets you close enough. It's an easy to use program and fast(doesn't reencode the video).
