it definitely is nice two keep a spare cb in the car. when i'm in a caravan or something with a car without a CB, i pull my old Cobra out of its case, pop the antenna on the roof the previous unabled car, plug it in the cigaretter lighter, and go.

you also need a police scanner they are fun it depends on where you live.

Where I live the police use digital encrypted.(Reading,PA USA)
It's impossible to listen to That.
But I still hear plenty of good stuff.
    fire
    ambulance
    airport
    cabs
    CB
    Walkie talkies
    cordless phones
    certain cell phones
    county dispatch
    etc.

what kind of reception do you think the firestik might give me? would 20-25 miles on a good day be feasible?

It depends on conditions and how powerful there Radio is.
If there pushin power you could hear them that far away easy.
O and most amps have a pre-amp that brings in the recieve a couple db you have to look at the specs of them.

CB radio is fun but ham radio is even better in my car i have a
RF amplifier, that can run up to 3500 watts pep and in low power, its legal! I used it in my area on CB,because you cant get out far on the band without one it was fun but I worried cause it was wrong to use it on cb even though most everyone on the band uses one, of one kind or another, thats why you need one, so on ham radio you can use one ligit so i studed the simple licence book and took my licence test and now i have much more frequency to talk on and can work people all over the world. How about an antana about 4 feet that can work six bands at a 1-1 swr ? yep try it way better then CB
CB IS fun too but limited.................

hehe, it sounds good, but i don't have the time or money to get into ham radios...maybe after college. besides, i only use my cb on the highway, talking to truckers near me, or when i go camping--no one wants to stray far from the subie.

when i have the resources to build my small bunker and acquire *everything* i want for emergency preparedness, a couple of ham radios are right at the top of the list.

    *edit*
seeing as your first post was right here, okokyea, i suddenly like you :p
