   I've captured tv shows with my tuner card. they are saved as mpg. how do i compress these files (about 300meg/half hour). Also is there an easy way to cut the commercials out of the recording.

   Convert to vcd or something with an encoder like TMPGEnc, also you can click file - mpeg tools and click merge and cut!
