I've been getting the error pretty frequently or at least I'm guessing that is the error that is not letting my DVDs fully burn. The amount of the DVD that burns varies and is playable up until a certain point. I thought maybe it was the files but after another try or 2 the DVD will burn with no problems. Here is a log of the most recent burn that I attempted: I apologize in advance if I posted too much of the log. I'm new, actually this is my first post I believe, and am not 100% sure as to what needs posted and whatnot. Any help would rock. The Nero are logs are long but it's better to post the whole thing. Wait til you see one from Nero Vision 1st thing - let's edit out the serial # - don't need someone else getting it! It begins w/ 1C. Update your Nero to 7.0.8.3. Here's a link: http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845 Let's turn DMA back on. Here's a guide: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 Your drive isn't fully recognizing the media you are using only that it's a +R. What brand are you using? Is this a Dell pc? Your drives are probably BenQ but if this is a Dell you would need to use Dell supported firmware otherwise the warranty would be void. Still under warranty? Try 4x. Nero & Roxio don't always play well together. Uninstall Roxio and run the clean. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml Try these suggestions. Let us know how it turns out good bad or otherwise!
Please remove your serial number, it is at the top of your log and begins with 1C82 DMA should be enabled for all drives. Here is a guide courtesy of alkohol to get it enabled: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 You are attempting to burn too close to the edge of the disc, reduce your target size in DVD Shrink or Recode (whichever you use) to 4300. This should be a three line paragraph that would include the MID of your media...it's not there. Usually a firmware upgrade will fix this, but I couldn't find a current firmware listed for your drive. I did see that your 8701 is actually a rebadged BenQ 1640. If you are interested in crossflashing your phillips which isn't being supplied with firmware updates to one that is, here is the thread for you: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=164612&highlight=8701 This is Roxio's driver, it is known to cause problems with Nero. My suggestion is remove Roxio in it's entirety via this removal tool: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml EDIT: Ya got me again Binkie...LOL
Ok I will give those ideas a shot. Question though: Is there a way to keep Roxio? Nero gives me problems when trying to burn MP3 discs which is why I installed Roxio. I would get a "dedicated plugin needed" error with certain MP3s when I used Nero. Also my PC is a Dell that I purchased a few months back.
LOL...we knew that. Just one question, why do you want to keep Roxio? It causes so many conflicts with so many other programs. Here is a plugin package for Nero: http://www.cole2k.net/?display=NPI Give it a try and see if it corrects your problems when burning MP3's.
@Steve7481 What media are you using? You can try the rest of the suggestions 1st and if you still get the error than you may need to uninstall Roxio. Question though did this problem start after Roxio was installed? The other weird thing about the log esp. since this is a newer Dell is the hard drive is on the secondary ide channel and the dvd drives are on the primary. Usually it's the other way around. Just makes me wonder if they set everything correctly and securely.
I'm using Memorex for the time being. I keep saying I need to get some Tayo discs but keep putting it off or forgetting. I did "attempt" to install another burner that I had previously. Doesn't seem to work all that well then again maybe it was due to Roxio. I'm not quite sure. I uninstalled Roxio and am about to run the Zap.
Just wondering why I don't wanna update Nero to the most recent update that's listed on the page that I was linked to.
I will come in here with my "standard" reply, believe me 7.2.0.3 is a shocker, this is my advice for those who ALREADY have it. Nero API version: 7.2.0.3 This latest version of Nero is full of bugs, I recommend you uninstall, run this clean tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html and then install 7.0.8.2 a more stable version from here http://www.filehippo.com click on Nero 7.2.0.3 and then select 7.0.8.2 for a bug free version
I'm in the process of downloading 7.0.8.2. My connection has been bad lately so it'll be a good bit. Anything else I should do before I install that version? Should I uninstall my previous version? Will my serial still be good to go? I've ran the Roxio cleaner. Should I do that DMA before or after the new install? Sorry for all the many dumb questions. I just don't really have a clue.
Version 7.0.8.2 seems to be more stable as gwen said. The audio conversion/ cd copy doesn't thrill me. Now those memorex - I think you know the answer to that Yes turn the DMA back on - before or after you install Nero. Doesn't matter. You can install the new version over the current one. Your serial should be recognized. Just write it down in case. Then try again and let's us know how it went. If it fails again post the new log.
No it won't be a problem - your hard drive is on. You'll just do it for the primary ide channel which is the port the drives are on that are off.
I normally don't say this but since this is a Dell still under warranty hold off on flashing this w/ a BenQ firmware. Let's make sure DMA gets back on. Even if you get another failure after all the other suggestions(we're talking memorex here) we can check and make sure you're still not getting device not ready error. Do you have any other discs besides memorex?
Unfortunately no. I've never had problems with them in the past. Granted I'm having some problems lately. I've had some Memorex discs that have lasted me 2 years or more. But I've went ahead and turned the DMA and did everything in that thread for my primaries. Everything seemed to go OK with the restart and reinstalling. I have the version of Nero that you suggest. I'm gonna go ahead and try a burn and let it go while I'm at work. I work the good ol' graveyard shift. Hopefully things will go smooth. I'll check back tomorrow and let ya know how things go.
Hopefully it will go smooth! Let us know how it goes. Oh since you've probably in the US (midnite shift time) check out this site for Taiyo Yuden: http://supermediastore.com Or Best Buy, Staples etc. have weekly sales. For good stuff usually 14.99 for 50 - look for Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell.
Well I just got home and saw that my burn had completed successfuly. I actually used a different method that usually didn't work. Usually I use DVD Shrink to just copy the files to a folder and then I open Nero separately and create the DVD b/c if I used both my burners to just rip the DVD and then burn right away it never seemed to work. Regardless though it did work but it took an hour and a half. A friend of mine says it takes him under an hour total. Is there a way to check is everything is A-OK with both my burners and everything is optimal?
