    hi autotechre welcome to Afterdawn,

Lets go over some of the things from your log:

your firmware is a bit behind...update using the link below
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces

burner doesn't like your choice of media try some verbatims datalifeplus or some taiyo yuden.

very bad..rather they are not known for using reputable manufacturers and for the most part the disks are crap.

your version of nero is out of date. Use nero cleantool from http://nero.com/us/Clean_Tools.html to uninstall your version, reboot and update to the latest nero or 6.6.0.14.

any disk with cmc coding is bad for your burner. See the second link in my signature for blank media codes and recommended brands. Also I suggest you stay away from store brand media (i.e. compusa)

Please correct some of the issues I have pointed out and report back.

firmware is what 'teaches' your burner about media types/speeds etc. So if your firmware is out of date, it won't be able to recognise newer media correctly/if at all.

Firmware is the software that is embedded within that particular piece of hardware. On motherboards it is called the BIOS.

    @autechre -

in addition to matt72's reply -

    *peeks over matt72's shoulders* :)

    - Nero doesn't recognise the burner correctly. This should be resolved by installing latest Nero as per matt72

    - this isn't too bad, but for future burns make sure to close down more applications to free up more memory

    - did you intend to use multisession ?

    - when you install latest Nero make sure to NOT install Nero's InCD - it interferes with standard Nero Burning Rom

lol didn't have a chance to go thru the log vigorously as work is blocking and checking websites that are categorized as peer2peer so I have to backdoor the actual forums link. Those drivers look like coraldraw or some other application not in use but runs as a hidden process. As long as we get him burning that is the main goal.

*grumble grumble @ creaky stealing my entrance phrase :)

no worries, just couldn't resist the shoulders thing :)

i'm able to clobber quite a few posts as i'm working away all week so i'm able to spend a bit longer on each post. Oops thanks for pointing out the InCD thing - i should have said Roxio

@autechre - ignore my InCD comment in previous reply. Uninstall Roxio software as that also interferes with Nero, as does InCD

i am in the process of figuring things out....

    1. For the firmware, there are a few options to choose from: B8H9, B8J9...etc..which one should i choose?

    2. I cleaned out NERO and installed the version you suggested, but it ended up being a demo version and I didnt have the option of burning a data disc, so i am downloading version 6.6.0.15 instead.

    3. I went out and bought some SONY DVD +R 8X

I am just waiting to install NERO, the download is taking a bit long; I will report back...
Thanks for all the help guys!

So after taking steps 2 + 3 above, I got another error. The log file is pasted below. The burning process only went as far as 1%. Bear in mind i didnt upgrade the firmware yet. Whats the next step?

try slowing down your burn speed to 4x even though your dvds have the capability to burn @ 8x that speed will sometimes cause skips, pixellations, green lines, etc.

as stated in previous posts turn some of your background processes off. Disconnect from the internet BEFORE turning off your antivirus and firewall.

you have a few options here. If you are not sure which one to choose always goto the burner manufacturer website as they usually have an explanation regarding which one you should choose. The second choice is go with the latest one as an example:
B8J9 will have additional updates that B8H9 has plus some new firmware updates (reference posts in regards to firmware and what it does).

until you update your firmware your burner will/ does not like the media.

    Hello,

I checked with the website of the manufacture of my dvd burner, and I downloaded and installed the right firmware. I aslo decreased the speed to 4X, and disabled the internet. I do not use the laptop and do not have any verbatime products enabled. Is there anything else that show up in the log below? I am sorry for driving you crazy!!...

even though nero uses alot of memory your log is slowing an extremely high use. something is running in the background.

you are not driving me crazy I'm trying to help you like others helped me. Veritas (not verbatime) is a backup / packet writing software (see below)

above is showing you have veritas somewhere on your system active. Simply could be you used the installation cd that came with your burner or came with the actual system itself. In either event find it and delete it as the issue possibly lays therein.

Are you using nero vision express because that is how you would burn a dvd for use in a standalone player. The nero vision express should be longer. I see nero vision but before you burn it needs to convert from lets say mpeg1/2 to vob files for it to be dvd
    compliant.

seems big almost like an iso image. nero vision express would convert first then burn (which is why I say you are using nero express not nero vision express).

Also if in fact you are trying to burn in data mode switch to video mode for playing in a home dvd player.

*smacks myself on the forehead. Missed that until I was looking @ your first log and the intro message regarding your dvd player from xmas 2004. Use the guides section as you can reference that in regards to burning a dvd using nero vision express.
