Ok, I cleaned and reinstalled Nero 6.3.1.10 and tried burning the same two files again. I got a coaster, however this time I noticed that my used read buffer drops drastically moments before the error, but once again, without fail, the same "Error reading data," came up at the exact location (62 % in).

I think that I may just go ahead with my original idea and send it to my friend to burn. I'm not sure where to go from here, although I am hesitant to give up on it because I spent so much time/discs on it.

    Here's my burn log.

At this point I'm all out of ideas. It seems everything keeps coming back to those two particular files.

Let us know how it goes if you send them to your friend :)

Sorry but Nero's current version is v6.3.1.20 ... which can be downloaded from the Nero website:
    http://www.ahead.de/us/nero-up.php

Okay, I may not have the best of motives, but I get the exact same error while using Ahead Nero to burn certain files on my HDD.

Although it seems that my 60GB HD is in PIO mode even though it's IF DMA is Available option for Primary HDE channel...

"If Available" means nothing. It's the Current Transfer Mode that counts :)

What's listed as the current transfer mode?

    Have you defragged lately?

My HD is currently in PIO mode. It was on DMA until August 4th when it certainly changed to PIO, I am not sure why.

I have defragged lately, but it keeps terminate or freeze while it was defragging... plus with DMA off, it was slow as hell.

It might help to uninstall the drive through Device Manager. Try this,

    Go to Device Manager >

Expand the tree for IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers >

Depending on whether your drive is on the Primary or Secondary IDE (most main hard drives are on primary), right click the appropriate one and go to Properties >

Under the Driver tab, select Uninstall then OK.

Now reboot and Windows should detect and reinstall the drive.
