My pal whom has a problem with his sound on his box, he tells me the sound dont come on at first when he turns box on, then eventually it does, then flickers off and on, he said what he does is he changes channel then goes back and it is on again, but after a short time it keeps going on & off.

I checked the scart lead for him making sure it was plugged in all ok, then i had a spare scart lead and it continued to do the same, so i went and got my scart lead which is in my own box (as i do not have a problem with mine....yet!) and tried that, but again same problem occured.

It has all the latest firmware which was downloaded just before Xmas, which i done along with my boxes. Could it be his TV that is faulty? Should i try my box in his House to see if problem still occurs? Or can anyone tell me if it is the box and how to fix?

    Hi Lisboa67,

Try it with an RF cable from the back of the box, plug the RF cable in the TV/VCR socket at the back of the receiver then up to the TV, make sure your box is turned on you will then need to tune the TV in until your picture shows. See if the sound is ok then. Best of luck.

Sorry mate, can you break that down to me a bit more? Take out the scart lead? Replace it with a RF cable or add with Scart Lead? Tune the TV in not euro-vox?

Or shall i try his box first in my house? As dont want to be re-tuning his tv and mess up and get more confused!

Take the scart out, connect to your TV via an RF cable,

Once its connected up to the TV turn your box on, then you will have to tune your TV until it picks up whatevers showing on your box.

You will have to tune the TV in one way or another so yes as you said get a neighbour if possible to sort it out for you.

Well my neighbour finally found his manual for his TV Yesterday so i could tune it in as advised. First of all i tried my neighbours box in my house as he came round with his box saying the sound now had completely gone, so i plugged it in my house, and there was no sound, i turned the channel over then back and it worked but after a while it started to go off again.
Well after he found the manual i took it back to his house retuned it as you advised using the RF Cable, and it seem to work all ok, even the volume could be used again using the box remote control (as previously you would have to use the TV remote to ajust the volume) Well just popped in this morning to see if it was all ok, and afraid he informed me it was still going off, so now what anyone?

Sorry for the late reply, been a little busy :)

Try playing around in the TV settings under config and change the settings to see if it brings the sound back also maybe try the red button and select alternate audio stream when it happens.

HiTec, thanks for reply back, but can you elaborate a bit more, i have gone into config, tv settings i have a list of about 6 or 7 items, what do i change? Have done the Red Button before but that was to delete the 'commentry' for certain channels. But am dumbfounded what to change on what you have stated, please tell me what exactly, cheers.

It sounds like a hardware problem that your having but you could try changing the TV mode settings from pal to multi to NTSC, just have a play about with the settings and see if it helps.

Have you also done a factory default and a power-scan since flashing the box if not give that a try. As said sounds like a hardware fault so there's very little else you can do other than what's been mentioned.

    Hitec,
Will try that later on today, regards changing from Pal to NTSC, Just had a look at my 2 boxes and both are on the MULTI setting and work ok, will try my mates box later.
Again you will have to advise regards how to reset to Factory Default (AND a power scan, i know how to do)?? I flashed the box around XMAS time when all went haywire nationaly, so if none of the previous works should i flash it again? will try the Pal,NTSC, Factory Default, Power Scan.....then finally if not then FLASH box again?

Instructions on how to flash and factory default is HERE

Yes do as said try TV settings although I doubt it has anything to do with that then failing that factory default and power-scan failing that bin the firmware you have on your PC and download the firmware from the link above and re-flash.

    HiTec,
Right have just set the Factory Default piece, and waited for it to delete channels, after it done that it automaticaly went on to a page, which i set the frequency to 6887 then power scanned it, have just left my pals house and so will see in the next day or so if the sound goes again, will let you know the outcome and keep you updated. Does that seem all ok to you?

Have just re-flashed my box and downloaded the firmware back on.....and again problem still arises regards sound on/off? Seem to download all ok as the DNLD was flashing on my box. But was unsure regards 'binning' previous what was already on there.
All i done was plugged in cables, downloaded the firmware, saved it, exit, and still the same problem. Did i do it right?

Is the sound going on/off at your house or just you friends house using his TV? have you checked the remote mute button isn't stuck in?, when you flashed it on the unified flash loader did it come up download successful?.

Flashed it this morn at mates house, soon as i turned it on to Setannta Sports Channel it was Mute, turned it over to another channel worked ok, then back onto Setannta and it worked, but like it has been doing sound went off again. I or my mate has said he has to change it over to another channel and then back to get the sound, like i have just explained. Have tried the box in my house sound is on/off, my mates today where i flashed it, and my mates who's box it is, so it has happened in all 3 households.
Yes also Downloaded the new firmware and came up 'Succesfully Downloaded'
As in earlier thread was waiting before i flashed it again, did i have to delete the old firmware or anything else? As all i done today was take the box over to my other mates, plugged in lead & cable, downloaded the file and flashed it.
