    Hi all

trying to flash my max V. I've got the latest software (5-12-08), connected the null modem (after getting the drivers), but when I run the software it is not talking to the box. I am getting a 'waiting for a response from your receiver' message and it gets no further. i've tried unplugging afew times and restarting the software, but no joy.

I know it souonds like its not a null modem, but i'm positive I used it for this purpose last time and it looks exactly like the photos in the first post (has a big 'N' on it and was bought in maplins).

    Amny help gratefully received

You will get the firmware from the first page of this thread, and to recognise if you have a clone, just shine a light through the top vents and if you see red blobs over the screws on the circuit board then it is definatley a clone, also the connections to each board should be a flat ribbon in most cases. That's the best I can do at the minute.

If you are using an Adaptor then that is your problem to be honest, it does need to be correctly assigned to a COMM port, also if the problem persists, then delete the firmware you have and Download it again okay.

The firmware is a fix, and that is the firmware that has been fixed, in other words (modded) to take into account the A/U. And it is the firmware on the first page of this thread, and Fla1101, that is a silly posting, and is not allowed on the forum, you will end up getting the thread closed down or worse, so please EDIT the post.

It is using an adapter - it worked last april though - I'll get a new cable. Do Maplins do null cable straight to usb?

I've tried the software from a few sources, including this web.

    Thanks anyway

Well just check out the assigning of the COMM port here at the link, I know it is for a different box but it's the Adaptor your interested in okay. >>>>>>>>>

    Hi Malaci
Sorry its dede36 here I was doing the box flashing on carries pc hence her username on my post. As i said today I have a genuine starview the box, u advised the gtrom 4.03 and the thebox v4.55 to download, I did , put it to sky sports 2 but its not updating. I just manually entered the codes there and its fine but Im wondering if the 4.55v was the right one or not

Why cant you assign it to the correct port mate? also your using Vista and a USB adapter so you may struggle getting it to work at all. As said can you get to a PC with XP even better with a 9 pin serial socket so that you can fit the null modem cable direct.
