hello Hiteck, just to let you know that i have sorted my box.
someone adviced me that although i have n**/vir**. this area in hertfordshire used to be telewest. I found an update code starting 5c01 and tried that. and its all back up and running. thought maybe this info will help you when you help others.
thankyou once again for taking the time to help me, your a star.

So you opted for the c@des temp fix, did you mean 5A01 as 5C01 is C&W? but i'm sure you know that will only last for a short while and you would be better in the long run to get it flashed but obviously that's up to you, at least your sorted for now.

If you decide to flash it come back and one of us will try to help, all the best :)

Yep, they have and didn't even notice, you would be wise to take HiTeck's advice and flash your box, got to get to do it sometime, the longer you put it off the harder it get's.

I checked that link that you originally put up regarding the cable, didn't see the item, but the description did indeed say that it was a NULL MODEM, but do you know of anyone that has one you could borrow, just to rule out any possibility that it is not. Because really if you are direct to your PC and Box with the lead secure then you should not be having so much trouble.

Hi, Funny you should say that, as we borrowed one tonight from a friend. i tried to do the flashing but it is still saying system restore, we couldnt even do the first flashing. i am thinking maybe its the laptop. i cant use anyother as they are all vista, except the one we was using which is xp. we have put in new codes tonight, as they have all just been updated today. and once again its working for a while, i am going to try and borrow a laptop soon and try to flash again.

That one should be fine for you, have you tried removing the power for a few seconds (unplug) on the box when it says "system reset", and then putting it back.

Well delete the firmware you have and download it again from Eamo's FTA Library, and give that a go, if it doesn't then we will wait until you borrow one, but can't really see that being the cause, but stranger things have happened.
